Default Terminator 1 & 2

I'm looking to upgrade my copies of Terminator 1 & 2 from DVD, finally. I know that the Skynet Edition is the one to get for T2, but is the T1 version any good? Are there plans to release a better one if it is not up to par?

It actually doesn't look that bad. I don't know if a new release for T1 is going to come out. If it is going to, it will probably be when Terminator Salvation hits Blu-ray. But if you want to see it before you make a purchase I suggest renting it like at a blockbuster or if you have netflix. And check it out before you buy it.

Good point. I can wait until Salvation comes out. Probably not a bad idea. Maybe Skynet T2 will drop a few dollars by then too, or come out in a 4 pack...

Eventually it will be re-released as will T2 with the extended version. I'm sure most movies will be re-released eventually.

T2 skynet edition has 3 different versions of the film actually. It has the extended version plus the super extended version or something like that. It is like 3 minutes longer than the already 15 minute extended edition plus has an alternate ending. You just have to put a secret code in. The code is 82997. Auguest 29 1997 which is the date of judgment day.

Default Question about T1

Does the blu-ray for T1 contain the "Other Voices" doc? My dvd doesn't even have that doc and I'd really like to get the blu especially for that doc...and the pq/aq.

I believe it was either Jeff or Bill (from the Digital Bits) who confirmed that T1 is currently being restored, and that resotoration would likely lead to a new blu-ray release.

As for a 4 pack. Never going to happen. MGM owns the rights to T1, Lionsgate owns T2, Warner owns T3 and T4 (in the states anyway).

bottom line if you upgrade T1 and T2 you would only upgrade it for the Movie's PQ everthing else is SD.

Get The Skynet Edition because it does have a better PQ then the first release.

The T1 PQ is better then dvd aswell .... i missed it for 10 bucks at frys ... still waiting for them to get more to cash in the rain check

I upgraded all my Terminator movies once the Skynet Edition came out a few weeks ago. T1 looks alright on blu. T2 skynet, and T3 looks, and sounds very good.

From reading it's just the skull, same disc, and Digital Copy. Basically more features. If you're wanting to know about the skull itself I have yet to see it at a store.

I'm I the only one amused by the fact you have to type in a code, but they provide the code on the blu ray cover and advertise that it is there. Why not just have it as one of the selectable options?

I have the skull, i have a few pics in my gallery, its not metal, but it has that metallic look, it has a space for you to store the movie and all the extra discs in the back in little storage that slides in the skull...its pretty cool, the size is pretty decent too...

I think its part of the gig, in the movie options, it is like you are hacking into skynet...

That does make sense, but it still seems a bit spurious to me. In any case my preffered version of the film is the theatrical release, so it doens't really effect me.

Actually, according to an old Van Ling interview, James Cameron only approved the theatrical and special edition versions of the film. The third version was created for fans and was made an easter egg so that people could still watch it.

Cameron did not approve the third version (the extended special edition with the alternate "happy" ending) because the additional room scan scene felt very off to him.

[Show spoiler]
Cameron felt that if the scene where the T-1000 scans the room and finds the hiddent space in the wall were left in in the film; audiences would be led to believe that it had X-Ray vision. So he did not want to restore this scene to the film when creating the special edition cut for Pioneer's laserdisc release.

This issue may now also extend to the Blu-ray Disc release even though Cameron is probably aware that Van Ling included it. He still may not have approved the third cut so to avoid any issue, it was probably best to keep it an easter egg.

In fact, many early DVD easter eggs were created to include material not previously approved or cleared properly.

Nope. Just deleted scenes and two featurettes from the special edition DVD.
