Default Subwoofer other than Polk PSW10

I'm going to buy a subwoofer this week or the next and I decided for now to get the Polk PSW10 but then I saw a Yamaha for a similar price...http://www.amazon.com/Yamaha-YST-SW2.../ref=de_a_smtd

Which one do you recommend? Please don't post that Polk subs suck and that I need to get the elemental designs sub or the definitive, etc. I have no doubt they're better, but they're also 4 times more expensive. I'm looking for a sub within this range. Maybe $150. Thanks

I have the Polk PS10 and I upgraded to the Acoustic Audio HD 12 and I noticed a big difference in the bass response from all of my movies. You should be able to buy the HD 12 for a little more than $150 and the HD 10 for less than $150 from personal experience I would recommend the HD 12 over the Polk PSW 10 anytime. BigDaddy has a huge thread on the A.A. Subs.

+1. I have a PSW10 and I would definitely check out Acoustic Audio. I know for a fact that you can get the AA-120 for under $200 and this sub can get down much lower than the PSW10.

Here is the link for the deepdiscount site;

http://stores.channeladvisor.com/the...2%20BLACK%20V1

They are only available here or on the ebay store site I believe

Great bang for the buck!

I know you said not to post about eD, etc. But, the A2 - 250 is a little over half your budget shipped(not 4x). I think the difference would be much more than 2X in quality. Also, PA-120 & AA HD-SUB12 are options from $50 - $75 more than your budget. I just think waiting and saving up would be worth it. But if you have to buy now I would look at the Velodyne VX-10. It should only be a few dollars over your budget.

thanks for your suggestions, I'm actually right now looking at them. I found this on ebay, http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Powered-Subw...3A1%7C294%3A50

Seems like a custom subwoofer, what do you think? Ever heard of them?

I wouldn't go with an unknown brand. If you can find some discussion of it somewhere or somebody that has had experience with them then I might. You never know what you will get (white van speakers, etc..) with these. For that price I'd still go with the beast you know (Polk, Yammy, Velodyne, etc..)

If you are looking at $200 or less then I would suggest that you find any one of the 3 subs everyone has been guiding you to and I think you will be happier with them over the 2 subs you are considering

Premier Acoustic PA-120 $229 24hz-180hz 200 watts RMS/ 650 watts peak
Acoustic Audio HD-Sub12 $199 20hz-250hz 400 watts RMS/ 800 watts peak
Acoustic Audio HD-Sub10 $168 20hz-250hz 300 watts RMS/ 600 watts peak

I would go with the the 12" driver over the 10", as it only costs an extra $80 and you will get more bang for your buck with a 12" driver than the 10" (Bigger IS better sometimes, see?)

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=85212 check out this thread and you can see for yourself. If you want a 10" then get the HD Sub 10, it is a very good sub, I use it, it replaced a 12" and is much better then what I had before. It has punch and gets loud. JMO

That's what she said...........but I don't think I need a 12" sub, I think with the 10" I'll be fine.

I am personally not familiar with this company. However Big Daddy may be aware of them and the performance they are capable of.

I just received a Polk PSW10 subwoofer today. The build quality is nice and so is the 10 inch driver. The amp has all the controls that would be needed(except perhaps for an LFE connection).

For the price $119.00 which includes shipping from NewEgg it is not a Bad deal at all:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16882290034

There are many other choices available but the choice of the Polk PSW10 is a good one,to say the least.

My PSW10's have performed admirably, but I don't like the fact that they can't get down lower than 40 hz (it says 35 hz, but I think they are inflating the specs a little here.) I feel I am missing a lot of bass between the 20hz-40hz mark, so this is where the PSW10 is lacking in my opinion.......

From the reviews of AA on here I would think it is good bang for the buck at that price shipped. I agree with forsberg21 that you would be better off with a 12" (for HT especially), but I wouldn't buy a sub with a 12" driver at that price. If you think a 10" is enough and don't want to pay more this might be the best option for you. The 10" eD I mentioned earlier would blow it away though...

I just think the best deals below $500 are 12" subs at the $200 - $250 range (AA, PA, Bic H100, etc..) or higher end 10" subs $325 - $400 (eD, Outlaw, HSU). I think if you get a cheaper one you will wish you hadn't after a couple of months.

the problem with the PSW10 from polk is that it is a 50 watt rms, 100 watt peak sub that can only get down to 35hz, which your TSi 300/400s are rated to 35/34hz, so technically you have a sub that cannot get lower then your front speakers. that doesn't sound good to me, you want a sub that can extend down to about 25hz or less, 30 at the max, imo. I wouldn't get the PSW10 personally
