Default Anyone else miss Pierce Bronson as Bond?

Even though I couldn't stand Pierce as James bond back then I miss the good old days of Tomorrow Never Dies and Die Another Day

Nope. He's my least favourite of the Bonds.

I disliked his Bond so much that, when I was young, I thought I didn't like James Bond. (First one I saw in the theatre was The World is Not Enough iirc.)

...then I saw the other ones.

It's largely not his fault, though, he just was of the appropriate age in an era when they went soft. He's admitted as much. And in The November Man he has demonstrated he can do a great spy film.

Besides, Goldeneye is an awesome film. 1/4 is not a good record, but it's better than nothing. Tomorrow Never Dies is mediocre, certainly low in the world of Bond, but it has its moments. Some of the villains are pretty good. The other two are pretty unwatchable though. Easily the worst two movies I own.

Interesting news headline regarding Brosnan from today:

Definitely one of my favorite actors to play Bond.

I liked him and Dalton take on Bond. Unfortunately both Brosnan and Moore left on weak points. Moore's last movie should have been For Your Eyes Only and The World is Not Enough for Brosnan. I actually thought that one was a pretty good mix of the formula with a few twists. So I think that the producers have a tendency to strain the formula and keep the actors on too long instead of letting them leave on a high note. I've enjoyed his performances through the years.

Yes. Craig is by far the worst Bond yet (doesn't even look like the Bond Fleming created) and Brosnan is my favorite. Not his fault he got stuck with some of the worst Bond movies. He could only do so much.

Well, to be far, Connery was the closest to how Fleming described Bond, sans the scar. I like the Craig stuff, but worry for the arguments I made in my last post. I thought the last movie put everything in a nice bow for a conclusion to his run on Bond. Have no idea what's being brought to the table on the next one.

No, it's been documented many times that Fleming thought Bond should look like Hoagy Carmichael because secret agents should not stand out in a crowd and they should look ordinary. And he described Bond as having "thin, cruel lips" (whatever that meant) and none of the movie Bonds had thin lips, IMO, but if any of them ever comes across as "cruel", it's Craig.

By the way, there's a new Bond novel coming out in the UK. It's by Anthony Horowitz who wrote the previous novel, "Trigger Mortis", which takes place after Goldfinger and includes ***** Galore. This new one is called "Forever and a Day" and it's a prequel to Casino Royale, the first novel. Don't know when it will be published in the U.S.

Edit: That's the site censoring Galore's name, not me.

I liked him as Bond but I disliked the Bond films he ended up in. I wish he could have been in some better Bond films.

I agree, Goldeneye was awesome after that there was a steady decline in the films but Brosnan was always solid. Dalton should have had at least one more film, possibly 2. But when the legal entanglements regarding the rights happened that caused no films for 6 years, he decided to step down. Too bad I would have liked to have seen Goldeneye with him. Nothing against Brosnan but Dalton is one of my favorite actors. I almost look at The November Man as Brosnan saying " Look I still have it", he was badass in that movie.

No, he was a caricature of what everyone else who doesn't know bond thought bond was. As if he was based off all the comedy spoofs in the 80's and 90's done over the years which warped the idea of what Bond was.

Also, UO, i don't get the hype over Goldeneye, it's as a generic bond film as you can get sticking mercilessly to the formula without any originality. That's why i liking the Craig films so much more

Brosnan was by far the best Bond.
Some of his movies had their flaws, but HE wasnt the problem with them.

Right Bond, wrong everything else. GoldenEye is brilliant.

Brosnan has always been the worst Bond to me. Even in GoldenEye, which is a decent movie, he was just so boring and never brought anything new and interesting to the character. If he was going for the most vanilla Bond yet, he nailed it.
