Default Ripping digital copies?

I just picked up a copy of Bug's Life today (phenomenal) and it came with the second disk that had the digital copy. This was my first digital copy of a movie, so i wasn't aware that it copied it into itunes instead of just allowing me to transfer a copy of the film to my drive.

My problem is that I've recently ripped all of my DVDs to a UPNP external drive to attach to laptops or my mac. Basically, have the movie collection wherever I go. But the digital copy shows as a .app file and won't let me rip it. Is there any way for me to transfer a copy of the film to my external drive with all the others?

It's a purchased, legitimate copy.

thanks

I'm not understanding the question. You don't need to "rip" anything - it's already a digital file.

Use the redemption code that came with the blu-ray to transfer the digital copy from the disc to your computer, using iTunes. Once that's done, just locate the movie on your computer and transfer that file to your external drive.

I'm pretty sure it's in the same format as movies you download directly from the iTunes store.

Unless I'm missing something here?

I have tons of digital copies haven't used one yet...So I have no clue how to answer this question but I would assume it loads them as MPEG movies which can be located in your Itune Movies folder?

I hadn't been able to find the copy of the film that downloaded to my HDD. I found it in the itunes folder. i wasn't aware that there was a "movie" folder in the itunes music folder. I thought they were separate.

Place the disc inside the DVD-Rom. Then go to iTunes, the disc will appear under devices. From there, click on the name of the device...usually the name of the disc.

The iTunes window will change to a redemption page where you can type in your code. As long as iTunes is setup to store directly to your hard drive than you don't have to do anything but wait for it to transfer from the disc to the external drive.

Bear in mind that this is a DRM copy and will only work on Macs and PCS with your iTunes account, iPod with Video, iPod Nano with Video, iPod Touch, iPhones, and Apple TV.

i get the impression this guy doesnt have an ipod etc so a digital copy is no use to him. I think he wants to know if he can rip the digital copy to allow him to play in some other device.

Hey,

yeah,... DRM makes digital copies useless for lots of people.

I have an ipod and a macbook so I put the digital copies in my itunes before they expire. I don't think I'll ever watch a movie on my ipod though.

The person who started the tread has a hard drive with movies so he's essentially got what digital copies should be. His copies are completely portable.

If you want something like that you need to get the DVD and rip it to MP4 with freeware. Then you have a digital copy but it's free of DRM. I suppose it's "wrong" in some ways,.. but you bought multiple copies of this movie already.

You don't need an iPod to play a digital copy, you can use any PC or Mac and watch it right on your computer. From his original post it just sounds like he wanted to have the file on an external hard drive so he could take it with him.

If you're going to recommend a technically illegal but morally justified way of achieving this, there are much easier methods which are far more effective, as any Internet pirater would know.

As far as I'm concerned, if you have a licensed digital copy, then there is nothing wrong with obtaining another one that won't restrict your use within reason (that is, for personal, private use). The whole point is to be portable and useful, and if the DRM removes those features, what's the point?

I don't want to say I was recommending doing that.... that's just what would work.

Once I have something on Blu Ray ,..... I only want to watch it from the Blu Ray.

That's my biggest problem with digital copies... It's all stuff I have in a better format already.
