Default Re: Microsoft "Xbox 2" to use HD-DVD NOT!

Hi

I just read on a videogame site that the Xbox 2 won't use HD-DVD but normal dual layer DVDs!
But this information is not official yet, it's only based on the specs of some "Alpha Dev Kits" for the Xbox2....
I think that's some neat news for blue-ray

This makes no sense at all. All versions of Windows fit on a single CD. At most, a DVD would fit the bill with tons of space left over. Honestly, what kind of productivity will you get from and O/S that comes COMPRESSED ON HD-DVD?

And it hurts Microsoft in the end. Many people could and would upgrade to a new Windows on DVD, because most newer computers have them these days. Far fewer people will upgrade just the rom drive for the O/S. The smart ones know you may as well buy new. Die hard will buy new, others will wait it out.

If this is true, then it is Microsofts way to force people to buy into HD-DVD. "anti-trust" suit, anyone? :?

Well, if there will be a 128 bit version Windows with a lot of HD content...

Xbox first announced they will never ever use HD-DVD or blu ray for the 360. Then a while later they said well we are strongly considering HD-DVD but at a later date. IMO they are waiting to see if the format flops or not then go for it which seems shady. The official 360's coming for launch are confirmed to have 12X DVD drives.
