Default Who's your supergroup?

You've heard of Velvet Revolver, Scott Weiland I think and Slash with others. Now, there's Chickenfoot with RHCP drummer, Hagar, Satriana. They're considered supergroups because most everybody in those bands are recognizable alone. But who would you like to see combine forces? Me, I'd love to see Mike Portnoy, not my favorite, but certainly the best in the world team up with Mark Tremonti, who on the other hand is not the best in the world but my favorite. As far as a singer, you could throw in Myles Kennedy or James LaBrie and I wouldn't mind.

I'll end this now.

Guitar quintet:
Yngwie Malmsteen
Joe Satriani
Stevie Ray Vaughan (raised from the dead)
Kurt Hammett (pre-Black Album)
Dave Mustaine

Bass by John Paul Jones, Stuart Hamm, Beaver Felton; maybe even Stanley Clarke, Les Claypool, Flea, or Béla Fleck.

Hard to beat Portnoy on the drums, but in the interest of being different from your supergroup, I'll go with Lars or Neil Pert.

Since I love Geddy Lee on bass, but have already listed too many, I'll put him in there for keyboard/synth, along with aforementioned JPJ; let's just throw in Jordan Rudess (Dream Theater) because he plays a mean keytar.

With an ensemble like that, I don't need any singers.

Brettallica, I'm awfully dissappointed in you as it is part of your name. Metallica's guitarist is Kirk Hammett. Unless there is someone named Kurt, in which case, my bad.

No, you're right. That was a simple typo, but definitely big considering the circumstances. Rats for not proof-reading.

There is no Kurt Hammett, at least not one that matters, or one that I'd want in a supergroup!

Danny Carey - Drums
Paul D'Amour - Bass, then Justin Chancellor
Adam Jones - Lead Guitar
Maynard James Keenan - Vocals

Yes, this is TOOL (old Tool with D'Amour on bass or now with Chancellor) and to me they are all amazing musicians and are a supergroup!

Jutin is so much better than the other guy. No offense, but when D'Amour was there, it was clearly guitar-driven melodies, but with Justin, I mean, the grammy-award winning Schism is basically all him. Also, I was wondering how long it would take for someone to bring up Danny Carey. And to be honest, the two drummers that everybody who doesn't play drums will choose either him or Pert as greatest ever. Not that they're bad or overrated...

Drummers are so behind-the-scenes that unless you're a featured member of the band, as Pert often is with his solos, you're likely to go unnoticed. That's why so few people can name a ton of great drummers. Same can be said of bassists or rhythm guitarists. I put a few guys ahead of Pert in my post, at least.

I'll gladly put Bonham ahead if it makes you feel better...but then I'd have more of a Led Zeppelin remix band than an original supergroup.

You are right on a talent level with Justin, as I am probably a bit nostalgic making my preferences for D'Amour as I have always had an ear more for those type of melodies. Schism is an incredibly well written and played song, probably their best, although my all-time favorite is Pushit from Aenima. The only thing I have not liked lately is Maynard appears to be more political with their lyrics.

No no no, I know I sounded like a jerk but I was only saying, like you, it's hard to pick on something you may not have experience in. I'm a drummer and understand that what both Pert and Carey do is nothing short of amazing. But when I hear someone like Portnoy, it's just like...are there two of this guy? Oh, and Zeppelin is out of the question because they were a supergroup, no questions.

Word. I wasn't interpreting you as jerk-ish, so no worries! I definitely do not focus on drummers, but I do know a bit about what makes one good by listening to what they're doing. I have a fairly tuned ear for musical intricacies, which is why I like technically superior bands. I've heard a lot of Portnoy and seen him live; I saw Dream Theater last year. Tim "Herb" Alexander of Primus is also good.

Bonham is like a godfather of the instrument because of his influence and his timing (sort of like Hendrix was to guitar).

Anyone remember Jonny Lang? That guy was supposed to be the next great blues artist. He kind of dropped off the face of the Earth, popularity-wise.

Also I would LOVE to see (on a pop level) Timbaland, Justin Timberlake and Nelly Furtado team up and do an album. That would be cool.

I'll probably be put on ignore by at least four people for saying that though. lol
