Sometimes a movie will play in a theater too loudly for me. Is there any way for me to deal with that? Earplugs would make it too soft and wearing headphones distorts the sound. Any ideas?

Find a theatre that doesn't play it so loud. There's several near me that I don't go to for that very reason.

That's what I do but the problem is there's only one IMAX theater near where I live and it plays all its movies super loud ... and I really want to see the Transformers flick in IMAX.

next time you got to he movies just take your universal remote control with you and in the middle of the movie stand up, aim it at the screen, and lower the volume. simple.

I have the exact opposite problem. Movies, in general, need to be played much louder. You don't want it to hit the pain threshold or anything, but get it loud enough to where i don't have to hear candy wrappers and popcorn munchers from 50 ft away and couples whispering about plot lines and little kids giggling/squirming, etc.

That's the only suggestion I can come up with. You can adjust the sound to your liking, and you don't end up with stupid people talking around you on their cell phones or annoying children. {unless you felt like bringing along a taser} Plus, if you have an impressive enough home theater tell your closest friends that you'll provide the movie and they can bring the snacks and you're all set. {and you'll end up saving a TON of money my way} Logan |

LOL!! I'll probably be needing those hearing aides someday at the rate i'm going. Btw, i knew we'd get people telling him to just stay home. News flash guys, some people still like seeing a movie on a 900 ft screen. Back to the OP. It's hard to know what to suggest since every theater is different, but i know where i go the audio seems softer more towards the back of the theater. Maybe because they don't crank the surrounds as much? ![]() |

Use earplugs, just don't shove them in all the way. You can easily adjust how loud the environment is through this simple process.
(I work around aircraft for a living (Air Force), however, sometimes, I need to be able to hear people while in a truck, etc. - so, I just pull them out a little.) Should work just fine. Of course, as people have said, the easiest thing is to try a different theater or wait till you can play it in your own hometheater. |

![]() If the sound is ruining their experience of movie-going then they should go to a place to watch movies that would give them the ability to adjust the volume themselves. If they don't want to go to a place where they can get the most comfort for their buck, then they should suck it up. Logan |

If you go to earlier showings, that will help a lot too. Generally the older crowd goes to movies earlier on, and they will adjust the volume accordingly, even in IMAX. I saw The Watchmen in IMAX at midnight when it came out, and it was insanely loud, it was awesome. Never seen a movie that loud in my life. There were a few times where I was trying to lean back in my seat farther to get away from it, lol
Then when we went and saw Star Trek in IMAX at like 2 in the afternoon, I was a little underwhelmed, although it was still pretty sweet, it was a lot more quiet. So try some earlier showtimes |

Even though this concept has been done to death on this site, no one is forcing you to buy $30 worth of food when you go see a movie. I can go see a matinee for $5. I love my home theater, and it will just get better as i add stuff, but this whole,"let's never leave the house" attitude is not healthy and it sounds like it's just gonna get worse as time goes on.
