Need some advice.
I’m about to get the Pioneer VSX-919 receiver and a Polk or Energy small speaker system. I will need a new TV stand and have two questions. 1. I'm not interested in the open shelf style TV stand and perfer the cabinet style like this one. http://www.amazon.com/Techcraft-Vene...907386&sr=1-18 With a toddler and plans to have another baby soon, keeping the equipment away from little, sticky hands is a good idea. So, my question is how would I cool the equipment inside a cabinet? I’m not handy so cutting holes in the back of furniture to install fans isn’t realistic for me. 2. If I get a wood TV cabinet/TV stand, where should the center speaker go? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. |

http://www.racksandstands.com/ 2) Center speaker should ideally be placed at ear level in comparison to your primary seating position, but this is not always possible. Really, this too will depend on what type of stand and TV you get. But it is best to place it directly under the TV and centered to where you sit across from it, at ear level. Hope this helps.... |

Thanks for the link.
I'm limiting myself at the request of my wife. After getting the blu-ray player and learning about the existance of lossless audio I got the bug to get a reciever and speakers. She doesn't understand why i want it, but she's going along with it to make me happy. Her only request is the new tv stand be a wooden piece of furniture and not the shelf type stand. I didn't think it was worth digging in my heels. I'll check out the link and thinks for the info about center speaker location. |

I have little ones as well. 6, 3, and 8 months. It's really not hard to cut a couple holes and put some fans in a wooden cabinet style stand. It doesn't have to be perfect looking as nobody will see it. It just has to move the air.
![]() The backing on most of the wooden stands in thin and easy to cut. I got my stand from walmart for $129 and have been happy with it. I cut the back out in the center so the receiver would have more ventilation. I also cut a hole in the right side so the PS2 could vent easier. You can do it! ![]() Also I have my center mounted above the TV and tilted appropriately so the tweeter is pointing at ear level in the sweet spot. I have been very pleased with this. I just wanted to point out that you can put your center above the tv and have it sound just as good as under the tv if you do it properly. Cheers! |
