Default some questions

Hi all

I got some questions about blu-Ray:

How much will cost blu-ray discs? I have heard over 30 €. Then, how much will cost a movie on blu ray? 100 €?

I also have heard that blu-ray players will need internet conection, to avoid the company (Sony or any other one) to control what movie, when, where and who watches it (something that is not legal, at least in Spain), and of course, if it is original or not . Then, what happens? I have the right of doing copies of mi own movies, music cd's... for personal use.

And if an Internet conection is needed, will Sony (or any other) pay this conection to the telephonic company? Because I won't pay anything for it.

and what about our old DVDs?

I know Blu ray discs are better than HD-DVD, but if that things I have heard are true, sorry but I prefer to sacrifice some image or sound quality to have the freedom of doing what I want with my own movies or music CD's (except illegal copies or things like that).I pay for this.

and at least I won't have to throw away all my dvd movies

Thanks

This will depend upon how much the distributors and retailers think they can get away with. There are numerous arguments about Blu Ray vs HD DVD media costs. Even if there is an extra cost to begin with it will be only small blu ray vs HD DVD. However I imagine to start with a high def (either format) movie will sell for a premium. Overtime things will reverse. CD's were much more expensive to make (and a premium) over LP's - now the oposite is true.

, You are refering to what is called DRM Digital Rights Management. At the moment there is a lot of speculation - much of which I fear maybe true. At the end of the day if it's to onerous people will refuse to purchase "Big Brother". I think things will go much like DVD - the first few generations amy have some nasties in them, but they will settle down to common sense.

Think again HD DVD has a very similar DRM system, potentially not quite as robust, however the HD DVD claim it's almost the same.

In fact there is virtually no differnce between HD DVD and Blu Ray except the layer depth which means a higher capacity for blu ray.

It's now down to a waiting game. I'm however changing my status. I was going to be an early adpoter, I'm now going to let things settle for a while before I buy, unless the DRM issue is a beat up. Oh I'm not waiting to see who wins out of Blu Ray and HD DVD. HD DVD is dead an burried - unfortuantly Toshiba hasn't publicly stated this yet.
