Default Regal Forever Favorites series brings cinema classics back to the big screen

Quote:
KNOXVILLE, Tenn., Feb. 8, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- On Feb. 14, the Regal Forever Favorites series will begin showing weekly $5 cinema classics at our state-of-the-art movie theatres across the country. On Wednesday nights at 6:30 p.m., Regal guests will have a second opportunity to watch or rewatch treasured films celebrating milestone anniversaries throughout 2024.

"Regal Forever Favorites represent timeless movies that received great acclaim when initially released and have continued to gain audience appreciation ever since," said Andrew Turner, Head of Film at Regal. "While these classic titles are regarded as powerhouse standalone movies, they have also heavily influenced the current comedies and dramas that will become tomorrow's favorite films."

Beginning on Valentine's Day, the Regal Forever Favorites program opens with the holiday appropriate When Harry Met Sally..., one of the most beloved rom-coms of all time. And then the hits continue with The Godfather Part II playing at Regal theatres the next week. Following each Wednesday 6:30 p.m. screening, an encore viewing will be available as the first matinee showing on Thursday.

Regal Forever Favorites are being rereleased on milestone anniversaries so don't wait another five years for these films to possibly be back on the local big screen. Tickets are available to purchase at theatre box offices and kiosks, on the Regal mobile app or through REGmovies.com. Regal guests can also join the Regal Crown Club or subscribe to Regal Unlimited through the mobile app or website.

Will these be presented as DCPs or satellite feeds?

I saw When Harry Met Sally tonight and it was a DCP. It will have another showing tomorrow around 1PM.

Kind of random, but I was curious, did they release/print flyers for these Regal Forever Favorites lineups? I am hoping to get my hands on both flyers (assuming they made one for each group of four films).

I haven’t been to one of these screenings yet as it’s a bit out of my way but still considering going to the Shawshank Redemption screening matinee on Thursday.

I was planning on seeing The Shawshank Redemption on Thursday (tomorrow) but my local Regal appears to have canceled the screening as it no longer shows up on their website/schedule. I tried calling but they no longer have a live person answering (all recorded). Other further away Regals are still showing it tomorrow. My local Regal did show it tonight but seeing it tonight wasn’t going to work out for me so I planned for Thursday.

Anyone else have this happen at their Regal? Do they cancel due to lack of ticket sales?

I haven't seen any flyers at the ones I've gone to.

I've been to a few of them and none of them have been cancelled. This series doesn't seem to be promoted too well. I only found out about this new series on the day of the first movie (When Harry Met Sally).

Upcoming movies in this series:
April 10/11: The Dark Knight
April 17/18: Interstellar
April 24/25: Inception
May 1/2: Insomnia
May 8/9: Dunkirk

There's also a Dumb And Dumber screening on April 1.

Thanks for your response. Yeah, I also learned about it the first day of the first movie.

Still trying to figure out why Thursday’s matinee screening was canceled at my local Regal. Also curious if the Wednesday night screening had issues or it went smoothly.

Interesting. All Christopher Nolan films (except Dumb and Dumber, of course).

Thanks for that update. I wasn’t sure if this was only an 8 week series and done after the Matrix ran in April. Glad to hear it’s continuing. I just hope this cancellation of the Thursday matinee isn’t going to become a routine thing at my local Regal. It’s only the first time I tried to attend a Regal Forever Favorite screening, so I have no idea if prior Thursday screenings got cancelled. I will definitely be keeping an eye on the next two weeks to see if those screenings get cancelled.

If I had to see one movie, it would be The Notebook. I have never seen that movie, but heard good things about it.

I went to the Regal Cinema near me for the first time since January so I finally got an opportunity to ask about the Thursday matinee Shawshank Redemption screening in March that disappeared from their schedule and ticketing apps. I asked the only person there who was a kid out of College because he mentioned he was “in school” in March when they ran Regal Forever Favorites. When I asked him why it would disappear he didn’t know but said they wouldn’t cancel a showtime with less than 24 hours before showtime. I mentioned how all other movies and showtimes at that time/day were still available and it was only this particular movie showtime that vanished. It was there the night before but by the morning of Thursday it was gone. I had checked various ticket apps, websites and even called (automated recording with showtimes) but it was as if it never existed. Strange. The guy was probably annoyed I asked so I felt bad but it’s just so weird this happened and I really want to know WHY the Shawshank Redemption didn’t play that Thursday. The other Regals played it (Thursday and Wednesday) AND my Regal even played the Wednesday night showtime of The Shawshank Redemption. The Thursday one even had at least five tickets sold the last time I checked before it disappeared. I guess “the world may never know” as they said in that Tootsie Roll Pop commercial.

Also I noticed the Regal Forever Favorites didn’t continue after April. Was it not that popular or did they only plan to run it for several weeks instead of for the whole year?

Unrelated but sadly no more print flyers for Fathom Events. Not surprised though because a lot of places are stopping the print flyers, booklets or ads in favor of a big poster people can just take a picture of with their phones. I wanted the print flyers for the pictures of the classic movie images.

Who knows? I believe the last movie in the series was The Crow. Although it was branded a Regal Forever Favorites screening, it was actually the Paramount Scares screening with the Alex McDowell (production designer) interview before the movie.

Interesting. When did this screening occur? I thought the last one was maybe Dunkirk on May 9th. If The Crow ran after that then technically that would be the last one even though it was a disguised Regal Forever Favorite. Maybe this was the transition into Paramount Scares since they were phasing out the Regal Forever Favorites.

I looked on the Regal website and interestingly they still had a page for Regal Forever Favorites despite it being empty of movies. 🤔

It was May 29 with an encore showing around noon the next day.

There's currently a Hispanic Heritage series at Regal now ("HH24" on Regal's website) and there will most likely be a Christmas series in December like they do every year.
