Default Pioneer VSX-919 How to assign optical?

1st post! I'm trying to hook my MacBook up to my receiver, the picture shows up fine but I can't figure out how to get the audio to come through I have an optical cable hooked up, and if I set the receiver to TV/SAT I hear the audio through the receiver/speakers great....but if I change the input to the MacBook, the audio drops out? Do I need to assign the optical connection to the MacBook? Thanx!

I have a similar receiver. On mine you can setup the DVD channel to an HDMI input and separate audio source - being opt/coax. I use this for my PC similar to what you need. It is in the menu .. under input settings I think. I am not in front of it at the moment. Not all input names can have hdmi and a separate audio input.. it is kind of annoying but you can work around it. The manual should have a chart showing all the input/channel names and which video/audio inputs they can be assigned to.
