Guillermo del Toro could have Directed Thor

Director Guillermo del Toro has lots of projects in the works, including "At the Mountains of Madness," "Jekyll and Hyde," "The Strain," "Frankenstein" and of course "The Hobbit" prequels. And while he is still considering "Hellboy 3," he said that it probably won't happen since Ron Perlman doesn't want to wear the Hellboy suit anymore.

Del Toro now reveals to MTV News that his list of movies could have been very different, if he accepted the job to helm the upcoming "Thor" movie. He said that he was very close to taking the job, which would have been instead of "The Hobbit."

"They approached me for 'Thor,'" said del Toro. "And for a long time we talked about that, because the mythology and the images were very attractive to me. I'm a fan of [Jack] Kirby and the power he has, and I'm a fan of the original mythology. So I thought we could go back to the original mythology a lot. I love Loki, I think he's a great figure."

The job eventually went to Kenneth Branagh and del Toro signed on to helm "The Hobbit" prequels.
