Default Buster Keaton's The Cameraman region free Blu Ray

Hey Everyone,

This is to all my fellow Buster Keaton fans: there finally seems to be a restorated BLU RAY version of the movie. But I can't really backup if its any good (or for that matter, a legit release)

Can somebody maybe tell me more about this release?
https://www.amazon.co.uk/El-Fotograf.../dp/B01I0L20VM (is there an offical site or review?)

kind regards Elwin

Probably a bootleg or unauthorized version of some sort.

My guess would be this label just downloaded it or took it from DVD: this film is not listed in Public domain, but it is on Archive.org which is usually for public domain titles. In either case, I doubt it's a true "restoration" from any authorized source.

I wouldn't automatically assume that. There's one Keaton release in Spain that definitely is legit and isn't available elsewhere. The Cohen Group version of The General. If someone wants to be the guinea pig and order Spite Marriage and The Cameraman, we will know for sure.

The backcover images look kinda amateurish.. That made me question the legitamicy too..

I've asked this question to the Internation Keaton Society as well. Hope they know some more.

thanks for your reply

The Cameraman and Spite Marriage are held by Warner Bros. Unless these releases are somehow affiliated with WB (or at least licensed by them), these releases are bootlegs. Shortly after the Warner Archive started releasing blu-rays, I posted a query to the Warner Archive facebook page about blu-ray releases for these two titles. This is the response I got: "Neither of our two Keaton silents have gone through remastering in HD..no less to the specs requisite for Blu-ray disc. We would love to see this happen in the future."
Now this exchange occurred back in November of 2012 so I hope some HD work has been done on these films since then. For those who stream, are these films available for HD streaming anywhere?

I ordered both of the releases, will find out in a week or two.. I'll notice that immediately. I know from some sources at the Keaton Society that Spain was indeed working on restaurations of these titles.. Fingers crossed!

Ok , I got them both in the mail today (very fast)

And ... they're fake. Just DVD blowups, not blu ray quality at all.. I'm really dissappointed and will try to get my money back and will notify Amazon about these scammers..

Hope to have helped the Buster Keaton fans out there by testing this ****

Cheers guys

FYI, it's been suggested that The Cameraman might have been licensed to Criterion as part of the ongoing Warner licenses.

That would be great! I really hope so Criterion (expensive as they kinda are) are always awesome. I guess there awesomeness earns their pricings.

Lot of research, extras, great image and sound and just awesome titles
