Default Went to DC last week(pics)

**still uploading pics so be patient.

The last time I was there was in 2000 so it's been a while. I figured I'd see the sights again. The new WW2 memorial was revealed in '04 so I was anxious to see that as well as Ford's Theatre for the first time. < It recently went under an extensive renovation. I was able to get a tour of Capitol Building. The rotunda was very impressive. That building is filled with history. The Library of Congress is directly in back of of the Capitol so I looked around there as well. The "Reading Room" is really neat. I ended my trip by visiting Arlington National Cemetery and The National Zoo. Those Pandas are a riot! Supposedly they're being sent back to China next year... They're on loan from China for 10 years.

The Changing of Guard. There's a clip on youtube where one of the Sentinels challenges someone who goes into their territory. Don't mess with them. They change every hour(every 1/2 hour in the summer) and have not left their post since 1937. 365 days a year in any weather.

Bobby Kennedy is a few short steps from his brother. The building in back of the white cross is actually General Lee's house. It's going under renovation so I only saw a few rooms.

Here's a few pics of the National Mall.

These guys totally highjacked my pic. Where's Beta Man? lol

Inside The Capitol

Inside the room that Lincoln died in.

Ford's Theatre

The rest were taken @ the Zoo. Once I saw the Panda all I could think of was this..

Bamboo good...yum eat

- the baby finally moved his head. And I thought I was lazy. I found out that Panda's sleep about 40% of the time.

Really love DC. I've only been there once and that was about 18 years ago when I was 9 and I realize now I didn't properly appreciate the town. Would love to go again but it's pretty low on the list of places I'd go if I were to take a vacation. Still remember all the nice monuments and history of the town.

I love DC and try to go there as often as I can. It's about 45 minutes for us to get downtown. The kids love riding on the Metro.

BTW, thanks for sharing those awesome photos. Usually, we only get to the Smithsonian since that is really all my kids like right now.

I've heard you can drive there from NY and it won't take too long. Is that true?

No problem! That's why I did it. The Smithsonian is great. I didn't make it to all of them. Just the Air & Space Museum & the Zoo. The best part about the Smithsonian is it's FREE. There's at least 10 museums. So
there's a lot to see. You could easily spend a whole week there. The Holocaust Museum is also free.

DC is mostly free lol. I didn't have to pay to get into anything. The Newseum is the newest attraction and they charge you $ 20 to get in. I didn't feel like dishing that out. But mostly everything else is NPS(National Park Service) and it's all free admission. Even getting into The Capitol building wasn't too bad. I'd definitely suggest taking the METRO into the city. Parking is a pain.

From NY it will probably take you 5.5-6 hours. Depending on traffic which is never pretty in the DC area.

It's 3-3.5 hrs from Annapolis to the GW Bridge. If you take the tunnel through Baltimore then hop over to 295, I'd bet it could be done in 3.5 hrs.....if there is traffic in either place... 8 hrs. traffic in both places.. 14 hrs

lol The traffic is the killer. I'm from Pa so I just go down I-81 for a while and eventually end up on 495. It took me 1.5 hours to go 5 miles.

My wife mentioned that last time she was in New York with relatives they went but didn't mention the travel time. Her relatives live in upstate.

Considering a trip for us. Last time I went out East I was 14. It's time I visited again.

From Annapolis to RI is 5.5 hrs if i leave early in the a.m. When I moved up here, it took the wife and I over 14hrs because of traffic and weather. You have to time the Baltimore/DE bridge/NJ/NY/south CT traffic just right to fly through everything. If you hit one, you'll hit them all

did you check out any of the great bars or restaurants?

Does Ruby Tuesday count? I was going to try to hit up the Fogo De Chao which is a Brazilian steakhouse. Maybe next time though.

There are a couple great 'beers of the world' bars around town. My favorite is right next to the entrance to Chinatown. I might have missed it, do you have kids? If not, there's a great night scene in Georgetown you should check out sometime.
