Default Artie Lange v. Joe Buck

Anyone catch the premiere of the Joe Buck show on HBO?

He had Brett Favre, Paul Rudd, and Jason Sudekis (from SNL) on the show.

Lange (from Stern show) was vicious (but still sort of funny). Buck did not handle it well. In the end, I thought they both came off bad, and I thought the show was terrible.

Anyone see it and have an opinion?

I am not a huge Joe Buck fan, not at all, and I actually have the same opinion as Ovie on the premiere episode. Artie Lange was sort of funny, but Buck seemed really uncomfortable with him, and in the end I decided it stunk and that I'd just stick with my normal afterwork routine (Sportscenter and maybe Around the Horn & PTI) for my sports news & humor fix.

That whole show seemed like a trainwreck to me. It goes off in every direction. Is it a sports show, or an entertainment show. Also, what were they thinking having Artie Lange on the show? Everyone knows he's crazy and will say anything, and you're going to put him on a live show. Granted it's HBO and swearing is allowed but I would have thought this was a sports show that was at least somewhat family friendly. I've never been a Joe Buck fan, and he's going to have trouble getting out of his father's shadow when guests constantly bring his dad up. Favre was worthless. Didn't say a thing that wasn't known. He's never been a great interview though. I thought Lange was funny but it definitely didn't make me respect him. Having Paul Rudd and Jason Sudeikis was pretty worthless since Lange never shut up.

Artie was viscous, no doubt. Can't say it was the wrong thing. I think the mistake was Buck trying to take a swipe at Artie. playful or not, he simply isn't in the league that Artie is. being a comic he's going to be skilled with dealing with Hecklers and he goes for where it hurts.

Paul Rudd seemed to enjoy Artie

Interestingly, Artie always trashes Rudd on the Stern Show.

Excellent point, though. Buck was out of his league trying to return fire to Lange, who's as quick as they come.

He could've come off looking like the good guy; instead he came off looking like a douche with a crappy show.

They knew who Artie was; they knew what they were going to get. It's like buying a cat when you have a pet mouse running around the house, then getting upset when one day the cat comes out of the litterbox with a mouse-tail coming out of its butt.

This was already being discussed in the Howard Stern thread.

Anyway, the show sucked until Artie came on. My favorite line was something like "Don't worry it's HBO. Nobody's watching anyway".
