Default Do you change your own oil?

I just got done changing mine. Had to use the 'ol screwdriver trick... Thought it would be a nice off-topic discussion.

Nowadays...the economy is killing our blu-ray expenses. Oil prices jacked up the price of a quart of oil..which led to higher prices for oil changes. An oil change is around $27 these days. Even Walmart charges $30 now..but don't take it there! Just wanted to get a rough idea of how many on here do their own oil changes and what kind of oil/weight do you use?

I usually costs me about $15 in supplies to do it myself(not counting synthetic). So I save about half the cost which adds up down the line.
In my S2000, I use Mobil 1 synthetic 10w30 > Honda filter Total- $32 Changed once a year
I just changed the oil in my Accord threw in 5W30 basic Pennzoil. Got the 5qt jug for $12 which isn't too bad. I used a Honda filter this time but I also like Purolator. $16 total
I've also got a beater - '01 dodge neon. I use that Walmart brand Supertech. $10 +$3 for the Fram filter..and I'm under $14 which isn't bad. It's a beater so I don't care.

Eh it's a scam, imo. Just keep everything oem and you should be good.

I have a Toyota Camry 4 cylinder, a Chevy Suburban V6 and my Nissan Titan V6..

I just buy the filters and oil in bulk and store it in my garage..I buy oil filters by the 6 pack and cases of oil 5w30.

Just did both cars last Sunday. I buy my filters from Honda and my oil at Bj's.

Thought about changing the oil in the lawn mower too... may do that this weekend.

In general I've handled all the oil changes for my car since I got my first car in high school, but if I had a coupon for a free oil change, or something really cheap, like $9, I'd use that. I like the idea of putting what I want in the car, instead of using whatever oil they have, and whatever cheap filters they supply.

Then two years ago I got a new car, and since it's synthetic, I've only had to change it twice (coming up on a third), so it's much less of a hassle.

I've had to rely on the screwdriver trick a few times myself. I learned about it on Google a long time ago.

Ya...the last time it was changed it was cold as heck out so I had a garage do it. The filter was on ridiculously tight.. after getting a nice blister on my hand I decided to go with the screwdriver and that did the trick. Now all my oil changes have been done by me so I'll be able to get them done rather quickly come next time around.

I do all my own oil changes. Picked up one of these for the occasional stuck filter, but only needed it once.

I changed my oil from before I was 16 (on the car my mom had waiting for me to drive when I got my license, which was at 8:30AM on my 16th birthday), but then when I turned 20 or so and started buying "nice" vehicles -- that's a relative term, of course -- I stopped altogether and just let an oil change shop (or dealer) do it. My issue with performing my own oil change now is I do NOT want to deal with the disposal of the used oil and filter; there's no way in hell I'll put a vat of greasy stuff like that in my car -- not even in my trunk!

No because it's cheap to do at the dealership and keeps a paper trail at the dealership I purchased the car from in case I ever need to claim the warranty.

I do on my Toyota Corolla but I don't on the Escape...

Which is bad because I sell this sort of stuff for a living.

No, because my time is worth money!

I feel I'm worth about $165,000 a yr. That equates to $79.33 an hr, or $1.32 a mnute.

If I want to save $15, I'd have to do it in under 11 minutes and 36 seconds.

I DON'T THINK SO!
