I just received 4 Monitor 30's for surrounds. They have built-in keyhole wall mounting brackets but I'm the equivalent of a noob carpenter. What's the best way to mount these things on my wall and what additional hardware if any will I need?
Depth: 8.4 inches Height: 11 inches Width: 7 inches Weight: 9 pounds Thanks for your help Last edited by MyKill Myers; 07-27-2009 at 10:58 PM. |

These B-techs seems to be pretty popular. I ordered them but haven't set them up. Read the instructions though and they don't look too difficult.

Yes please. I need all the ideas/help I can get. Since the speakers already have the keyhole mounts on the back, I figure there is something I can grab cheap at Lowe's tonight to get this place rocking!!! But I need step by step materials list and what to do LOL. I can find a stud and drill a hole but have trouble with out of the box thinking when it comes to handyman stuff.

If you don't want to go the B-Tech BT77 route ($70.00/pair), then you will need drywall anchors and matching screws (usually you can find a kit at Home Depot or other home improvement store) if you cannot find studs where you want to mount them.
Ideally, you will want the tweeters of your surrounds to be 2-3 feet above ear level from a sitting position. |

OK will this is what I did and it cost me only $2 to hang them up and about $14 for cable management. Obviously painting is up to the you and what not. Just two good old fashioned wall anchers at home depot and it help up very nicely on what is a very old plaster wall.

![]() the way it works is its a nipple attached to a nut. The nut slides into the keyhole & you tighten the nipple to the speaker. you insert the nipple into the mounting hardware & tighten with an allen wrench. i hope i explained that right lol.....its a bit confusing at forst but after you figure the first one out the rest are cake ![]() hope that helps........any questions you can pm me!!! |

This ended up being the easiest thing I've ever done. I bought a pack of #10 2 inch round head wood screws for $0.99 from Lowe's. Predrilled holes into drywall and studs where I wanted to mount the Monitor 30's, installed the screws by hand with flat screw driver leaving about a 1/4" of the screw out from the hole, removed the rubber stoppers from the back of the speakers then mounted the speakers on the screw via the keyhole. By removing the stoppers from the speakers, it angled the speakers down to the listening area. Secure, cheap and perfect.
Thanks again for all who responded with helpful advice. Much appreciated. |

After mounting them I ran Audyssey test for distance and level, then quickly changed frequency from Full Band to 80. I noticed no rattle while watching Fast and Furious last night. The ports are at least several inches away from the wall and not flush. With or without the stoppers, my walls are muffling the open ports somewhat in this installation. Granted with the stoppers on, the ports may be less muffled but I ask you because I don't know, does that negatively effect performance? I figure the ports would be muffled regardless, better to have the speakers up higher with pitch down then installing low and aiming straight at the listening area.
I welcome yours and anyone else's feed back. Keep in mind I can not afford to purchase two sets of the previously mentioned $60 B Tech brackets to get them out further away from the wall. Maybe one day in the near future but not right now. Thanks guys. |

I'm no audio expert but I believe it will affect SQ, I have played with ported speakers before by covering up the port hole and you could notice a drastic change in harmonics...for the worse of course. I'll let someone with more audio knowledge chime in and see what they say.
