Default Delay in sound, HDMI and Optical

I was wondering if anyone knows what to do if you have a delay in sound?
I have a 60GB PS3 hooked up via HDMI cable to my 30 inch Samsung HDTV. I have an optical cable goiung from the tv to the home theatre sound system. However there is a slight delay in my sound of about three fourths of a second. To a person who doesnt care about sound, this doesmnt seem like a big deal. But I love sound and I notice everytime someones talking isnt lined or match with their lips. It needs to be in sync.
I know if I were to hook up the PS3 directly to the sound system, there would be less of a delay. But if I were to do that, it would mean that if I want to watch a bluray movie I would have to switch the optical from the tv to the PS3, and if I jus want to watch regulary old tv or a show or movie on cable in high def and using my sound system, I would have to reach in the back of my tv and switch the wires just so that I dont get a dely.
Any suggestions? and am I the only one with a delay?
Whats everyone sound hook up?
