Blu-ray warping/elongation? - Blu-ray Forum

I just read a post by Amir today where he said optical discs elongate due to the constant spinning and that BR discs having a hard coat causes them to warp since the hard coat doesn't "stretch" the same as the other layer.

This sounds really fishy but wanted to see if anyone else had heard of this.

Based on my admittedly slim knowledge of physics, it is possible that a disc could show some measurable warpage after a few thousand hours of spinning.

So take an old CD and take some measurements of the pits with a microscope. Put it into a cd player you don't use anymore and you can let us know the results sometime in November.

Hmm, I never heard of that either. I suppose it is possible, with a hell of a lot of usage. What I like is dobyblue's question...

Amir is spinning his BS faster and faster and faster. Since Amir and his BS have differential spin rates and since Amir is so firmly attached to his BS, severe warpage has begun to set in. Consequently, Amir and his BS are becoming twisted into incredibly grotesque shapes and becoming totally separated from reality. Amir and his BS are operating from the vacuum that is HD-DVD land, so there is no restraining atmosphere to slow his acceleration (his rate of BS spin is increasing at 32 feet per second per second) to a predictable terminal velocity. I think Amir is losing it or on drugs.

My take is that this whole post is a joke, and was such because he didn't want to face the question that was asked.

It is possible that all three of these are the case...!

lol, thanks Phloyd, I think you're right. Looks like the A-man suckered me in on that on. They deleted it so I'm guessing it was his attempt at a joke.

I thought it was utter bs that discs would deform over time but over the years I've sometimes run into something that on face value seemed impossible but later turned out to be true.

I'll give the A-man credit, he got me on this one. It shows just what a class act he is and in retrospect, I think he is probably a great representative for MS. I think he really enbodies what they are all about. There's a huge difference between his behavior and that of PaidGeek.

After hearing some of the things he's tried to make people believe, you gotta wonder what's to come of his position at Microsoft when HD DVD fails. He acts like an unscrupulous salesman that'll say anything to make a sale more than an insider with a clear understanding of the technologies that people can trust.

This was clearly a joke post, perhaps intended to belittle the person who suggested the XBOX360 had a track record for disc destruction.

(I can't even see the post anymore but I read it earlier. Maybe it and the original was deleted by the mods)
