Default Media Molecule job listing for 'ground-breaking, AAA, PS3 title'

Media Molecule job listing for 'ground-breaking, AAA, PS3 title'
by Christopher Grant { Jun 23rd 2009 at 2:00PM }

Quote:
LittleBigPlanet-developer Media Molecule is "expanding." Stop looking surprised! After winning more gee oh tee why awards for their maiden voyage than they probably had room for in their small Guildford-based studio, they're expanding! But, if a "job listing" is to be believed, this expansion isn't limited to an awards wing – they're also hiring a "Gameplay Programmer."

This code wizard is expected to not only have 2+ years industry experience, but also to have "shipped a console game with an online component," an unsurprising requirement considering the studio's (admittedly singular) pedigree. The job listing states that MM is "working on a ground-breaking, AAA, PS3 title for Sony Computer Entertainment" – as much as we'd like to announce "LittleBigPlanet 2 totally confirmed" we're not convinced this description necessarily means a followup game. After all, with DLC still in production on LittleBigPlanet – which is a ground-breaking, AAA PS3 title for Sony Computer Entertainment – this could be related to maintaining LBP as a platform.

But, of course, they're working on other games – expanding the PS3 development team to maintain the already shipped LBP doesn't make sense ... and the job listing does say the applicant "will be expected to maintain and improve the existing code and data structures." Existing code? Data structures? Oh emm gee! LittleBigPlanet 2 totally confirmed!

Why are they "confirming" things they shouldn't? Existing code can mean anything. Maybe it's LBP2. Maybe it's a side duty of updating LBP. Maybe it's maintenance of server code. Or maybe it's something else.

Point is, this is great, but let's not jump the gun at thinking it's LBP2.

I think that's pretty much exactly what the article was saying.

That's just the author getting excited and speculating. He's not *actually* confirming anything, hence the entire rest of the article.

I don't see the need for a LBP 2 actually.
More DLC content, yes, but I'd rather see a new huge IP

Same, I don't think we'll need a full blown LBP sequel for a looooong time. Thats the greatest thing about LBP!!

I thikn MM should team up with the Mod Nation Racer people and polish that game up. It looks amazing but I just have a sick feeling in my stomach it won't quite come out as good as they're hoping and trying.

Get some MM people on it, throw Sackboy in the drivers seats, and it's 100% quality guaranteed.

That's true, I'm just so curious what kinds of new and great things they'll be able to put in a whole new game using the knowledge they gained from LBP. I honestly think a sequel will be 10x better than the original in terms of design and capabilities.
On that note, Modnation Racers looks soooo great. That was near the top of my list of best announcements at E3.
