Iowa High School FB Coach Killed - Blu-ray Forum

Ed Thomas, head coach of Aplington-Parkersburg high school, was shot and killed this morning in the school's weight room. Thomas was the 2005 NFL High School Coach of the Year and coached current NFL players Aaron Kampman, Jared Devries, Casey Wiegman, and Brad Meester. This is especially impressive considering Aplington-Parkersburg is a very small school that plays in the smallest 11-man football class in the state. Last year Parkersburg was hit by a tornado and Thomas' house was destroyed, but his first priority was getting the field repaired in time for the season. Stories on Thomas and the town's rebuilding were featured on ESPN and NBC's Sunday Night Football, among other national programs.

I live about 20 miles from A-P and have seen firsthand how much the football team has meant to the town. The shooter was reportedly a young individual.

Thomas was the FB coach and the AD at the school.

It sounds like the shooter is in custody.

I heard on the radio that 50 students were in the weight room and witnessed the shooting. That would be an awful thing to see, and something that they'll never forget. Thomas was a mentor to many and it'd be very troubling to see someone you look up to get shot and killed.

Why would anyone shoot a coach? Some crazy people out there. I hope the people in the locker room beat him.

It's a scary f'ing place. Rapists, murderers, home intruders, child pornographers, pedophiles, drunk drivers, speeders, kidnappers, fetus-stealers, etc. etc.

The link below has the mugshot of the killer. He's a 24 year old former Aplington-Parkersburg football player. I've heard he's got a younger brother on the football team but I haven't seen that printed anywhere so it might not be true. The murderer was arrested Saturday night after a high speed chase that resulted in charges of eluding, speeding, reckless driving and failure to obey a stop sign. He's also had numerous other legal issues over the last couple years.

Our starting center for the Jags Brad Meester used to go to school there. He'll be attending the funeral.
