Default Do you use walkthroughs?

I'm the type of player that rarely uses walkthroughs. I like to figure things out, and for the most part I do. But when puzzles are just illogical & make no sense, or a level is so completely impossible to do, and I'm frustrated out of my mind is when I resort to a walkthrough.

So I'm just curious, who here uses walkthroughs and when?

I usually use walkthroughs for RPGs that require following a walkthrough so you do not miss out on anything that would be considered 'unmissable'.

Also, sometimes the backgrounds in games can be deceiving and its difficult for me to discern where something may be.

I won't use walkthroughs to get through the main story or anything. Might only use them to find strategies against major bosses, but that's it.

I will use guides, maps, etc. to find collectables though. I don't think I could have found all 100 feathers in "Assassin's Creed II" without them!

I use them on very rare occasions. Usually when I'm stuck on a part I can't get past and have tried over and over and over........

Only if I get hopelessly stuck in a game and just can't go on without help. In that case, I hop online and find a free guide. I haven't bought a game guide in several years...

Same for me. I use the maps and guide to help me with annoying trophie like the 100 feathers in AC2 or all combos in PoP. but never for the "game" itself.

Yeah, sometimes if I get really stuck I'll goto gamefaqs.

At least with a walkthrough you still have to actually do the parts of the game yourself unlike a certain Wii game that magically plays levels for you.

I don't see why people actually buy guides when gamefaqs is free.

I stopped using Gamefaqs awhile go because it had no pictures.

So instead I've been using a lot of wikis and so on. If they are too lacking for me, I then buy a guide.

I usually don't on my 1st playthrough unless I get stuck some where.

My second run is where I usually use a guide, especially if I am trying to acquire all of something(items, puzzle pieces, equipment, or misc trophies I missed during 1st playthrough)

Traditionally I do use walkthroughs on my 2nd or later playthroughs to complete everything that I've missed. This is especially on RPG's.

Same here. I like to play through the first time on my own trying to find everything I can then use a walkthrough to get anything I may have missed to get full completion....Uncharted 2 comes to mind here.

I only use guides that show how to optain certain items. For examples feathers in AC2 or treasures in Uncharted 1 and 2.
I never use a walkthrough to play the actual game.

like others, ill use walkthroughs for collectibles, a lot of games put collectibles in places you will never ever in a million billion years find them without the guide *ahem! GTA4 pigeons ahem!*

i will also occasionally use them for a strategy for beating a boss or section that i have tried over and over again with no success, if im getting close but falling short, i ususally keep going till i get it, but if im nowhere near beating that certain section, then ill go to the guide
