If your floor is cement, it is a good idea to put an area rug under the sub. Also, it helps if you put the sub on a riser. Check the Subwoofer Section in the Forum for DIY Subwoofer Risers. |

the Premier Acoustic PA120 would be a great option if you are wanting to spend a lil more 230bux.. but the pa120 and the hd-sub12 probably sound really close ,, just have to figure out which finish is best for you.. i prefered the black gloss top finish and bought 2 pa120's.. i have never been happier.. |

meatwad91, welcome to the foray! i hope that we can assist you futher with your HT needs, as well as blu-ray questions.
second, id consider the PA as well as the acoustic sub as two great options for a cost effective subwoofer. bear in mind tho, that with each 'cheap' or 'inexpensive' purchase, you are essentially doubling the cost of your future 'set' speakers. if we buy a 100 dollar subwoofer, and plan to replace it in the near future with a 500 dollar one, you couldve used that 100 towards the 500 purchase. just my two cents. |

the two subs mention AA and PA are about the best u will get for ur money... u would have to spend a great deal of money just to notice a significant difference and if ur afraid of upgraditis,,askyourself this.. what makes u think u wont get it when u buy that 500 dollar sub.... stick with a set budget and try not to be swayed by others that tell you "oh,,if you save up ???.?? bux you can buy sub XYZ " I fell into this trap, but came to my senses and bought 2 PA-120 subs.... im hapy with my choice.... are there better subs out there.. yes,, but at a price but if you just have to have the biggest,, the baddest,, annoying to neighbors,,known name brand out there or if you r competing in a home theater competition then by all means spend ur hard earned money |

you have truth to this Jae, and as always there is a flip side to every story. in this case, i just become considerate of how our colleagues may want to address their 'needs' so to speak.
its like buying a car as well, you want a porsche, but have to start somewhere right? in most cases if you can afford it straight off the bat, then be my guest. but i wouldnt settle for scraps so to speak. the first purchase id like to make should hold some sort of weight in what it can carry, and not have something to 'bear' with for only a couple of months. as you've mentioned, there are tons out there that can significantly outperform, outshine, and plain right embarrass most subs out there, but have a hefty price point. its all a matter of diminishing returns. how much are YOU able to spend, and how long it would last for your enjoyment. |

There is a big flaw in the argument of those who say that you should save money and buy a high-end product so that you won't have to upgrade later. Unfortunately, they are assuming that there is a medicine or cure for upgraditis. I am the living proof that there is no cure for this disease. It is worst than addiction.
![]() I bought a nice 10" German-made subwoofer about 30 years ago. About 20 years ago, I bought another 15" DBX subwoofer. I added a 12" a few years later. About 11 years ago, I bought two top Hsu 12" subwoofers. Last year, I added another 3 subwoofers: one 12" and two DIY (12" & 15"). In the meantime, I bought three more subwoofers for my computers. I am already thinking about building a couple of DIY open baffle speakers and subwoofers. My wife thinks that our house is fully subwooferized. ![]() ![]() If you spend $100 or $500 on a subwoofer, you are going to want to upgrade in a few months/years. It is called a FIX. ![]() ![]() |
