Default new member-ht questions

Hello Everyone,
I have been reading the info in these forums for almost 6 months without becoming a member. I have a bdp-s300 with firmware upgrades and have recently purchased a samsung ln52b750 and onkyo ht-s6100 because of what everyone has posted because of each. I like to think I am pretty electronic savy, but I can't figure this out. I need someone to explain to me how to get the best audio/video from my units. I do not completely understand the pcm / multi channel info. I would like it if one of you could just tell me settings I need to have my units on to get the best out of them. Thank you very much ahead of time, because I know someone will help me here.

Connect your BD player to your receiver by HDMI and set the BD player's audio output to LPCM(not bitstream).

Connect your receiver to your television by hdmi.

Enjoy.

There isn't too much more than what kp said. Did your receiver come with a mic to calibrate your speakers with? If so you will want to use it as it can help with setting up the speakers and distance of speakers correctly.

He could calibrate his display as well. Perhaps with a disc like DVE HD Basics or Spears & Munsil High Definition Benchmarks.

Yes, he could. I have the DVE HD on blu it it helped with my Samsung 750a but I tried to use it with a HD projector I installed last week, it looked horrible! I was lucky enough to find professional settings on a website and now it looks great.

I use all hdmi wires and I used the mic calibration when I got the Onkyo but I did not really like the way it sounded so I did it myself. Which listening mode do I need to have my Onkyo on if I set my bluray to LPCM?

not sure on that player, but it should be in the Audio Settings menu for the player, to give you the choice of LPCM or Bitstream

I understand the settings now for my bluray player, but I do not know which settings to use on my Onkyo, I have a ton of options for listening modes on the receiver.

Usually something like 'direct' is the best. It will take what comes in and output it with out processing (other than standard calibration mods). You don't really want to use anything like virtual, or phantom 6.1/7.1.
