Swapping out blu ray drives - Blu-ray Forum

I have an old 60 GB PS3, the blu ray lens died on me a month ago.. I was wondering: can I just swap my blu ray drive out for a newer model?
any help would be greatly appreciated!

I believe you can simply swap the Blu-Ray drive for another one and it'll work just fine. But you need to remove the controller card from your Blu-Ray drive (it's underneath) and put it on the other one, otherwise it won't work.

I've never tried this personally, keep that in mind.
