Mine gets shut down but, one w/of the exact same topic pops up w/a poll and does not get closed.

The mods were getting fed up with polls being made in threads like every 5 minutes.

I will say it's odd that three of his polls got closed down and renamed with the same condescending title. It's also odd that two weeks later, someone opened the exact same thread and it hasn't gotten closed.

If someone does have a beef with him, it should be resolved behind-the-scenes.

Maybe there's more to the story.

On a personal note, I've had non-poll threads closed without explanation, too, and it always leaves me thinking "Why was it closed?" Without explanations, how are we expected to correct the problem going forward?

what i would do instead of making a public outcry attacking mods is find out who did it and see if it was for good reason first. i wouldn't make another thread about the exact same thing and call the mod a loser. then turn around and say the mods are out of control. but that's just me. maybe your way will work.

you make a good point... perhaps its not the closing of the thread that bugs ppl, its the lack of explanation as to why it happened that does

I agree with your general point, but just to clarify: I do not believe he started the recent thread about Braveheart/Gladiator. Someone else did.

In that regard, if moderators (who we all know have a thankless and difficult job here - that's certainly not the question) have beefs with certain posters, the moderators should be big enough to work it out with the poster behind-the-scenes. You know, the whole "taking the high road" thing.

Again, I have no idea if that's the case here or if there is more to the story.

I'd also like to add that I hope this thread doesn't get closed. There should be nothing wrong with moderators engaging in discussions with the members, especially about how things are moderated. We can all benefit from it, IMO.

I dont understand. Just don't be stupid with what you do, and there should be no problem. The internet is like every other place, there has to be some sense of order. Don't act up, and you won't get punished. Dang kids these days.

Well, today many of the members were out of control. Some are lucky they were just suspended. Good work mods.

I know he's gone but... how in the hell were the two topics the same? They were similar but asking what people are purchasing vs. which one is better... yeah, not the same.

That and the kid's HT gallery are enough to ban him.

Not sure it was that as much as being banned from the site and trying to come back. He could have just said hi guys and that per different board rules is enough if you are banned for whatever reason.

I stand by the "more information when closing threads" thing.

The ban emphasizes to me that there's some personal beef here, which is unfortunate.

Not if he was previously banned... no.

However, I agree it'd be nice if there was more information when a thread was locked or moved or posts were deleted. I love "phantom" moderating...

I agree it is condescending and obnoxious. But I don't think it's odd. I thought I saw polls posted by other people that also got closed and renamed the same way. As for the other thread, threads about purchasing or generating excitement for upcoming releases will tend not to be closed -- his thread seemed slightly more trivial and may have been closed due to his posting too many polls.

I don't think "more information" is needed for closing threads. Giving "more information" takes time and expends energy (which is bad for the environment). I think the only time "more information" is really needed is when a mod edits a post and I think they generally do give that information.

And I think "more information" was provided in this case -- by changing the title. Maybe they do it that way, even though it seems obnoxious, to avoid people getting upset or holding a grudge against specific individual moderators.

I agree with Luscious kinda, and I've seen threads closed and at the bottom sometimes there is an explanation, but if there was a reason last time that he was banned why should the Mods have to explain themselves again.
I'm also sure there might be some behind the scnes things going on that maybe we dont know about and really per say dont have the right to, but I do fond it commendable that no Mods came on here and talked back creating more controversy. To my knowledge none of the comments were edited either in this thread.
I have seen several forums where Mods get too involved and I can honestly say that this one and dvdaf are pretty good at standing back and watching it go for a while until it just goes too far. There are some things I disagree with of course, but NO ONE is gonna find a perfect forum.
