Default how do I use my laptop to back up my PS3 files??

Is there a way to backup all of my saved files from my PS3 on my laptop? I'm upgrading my PS3's hard drive to 500gb and I was just wondering if there was a way. I don't have a usb thumb drive or anything.

I thought the largest HD a PS3 could read was 320?

Nope! The Western Digital WD50000 BEVT 500gb works just fine! Amazon has it right now for 95 bucks!

Can no one answer my question?

It needs to show up as USB storage device for the PS3.. which I don't think you can do with a laptop. Maybe there is some program that can make it so..

I was thinking that as long as the hard drive is using fat 32 the PS3 would recognize it.

If all you want to do is back up your saved games, I'd use a cheap USB memory key. You can get a 4gb key @ Walmart for like $10.

If you use your laptop, you'll probably need a male-to-male USB cable which will run you just as much as the USB key, and there's no guarantee that the PS3 will interpret the laptop's HDD as a writable disk.

+1

The PS3 needs to interpret your laptop as an external USB drive. There might be software out there that can do it... that's about your only choice other than just getting a USB key or an external drive like the one you mentioned for $95.

ONLY if your laptop has a FAT32 partition. Using an external USB enclosure or some sort of USB connection, you can then back up your PS3. OTHERWISE, no.
