Default Samsung LE40M86BE optical out supporting Digital sound?

Hey there

I am considering buying this television - and I am quite sure this is the one.

I got one question. Unlike most of you, I got a cheap surround set from Logitech, the Z5500 with 1 Optical input, and I have several devices with optical output. At the moment, I use an optical switch box (external) everytime I change device, but I dont like having yet another box around............

SO - as the Samsung M8 got an optical out, and 3 HDMI inputs - I thought the tv could be my "switch" box, and I would only need 1 optical cable from the Tv to the Z5500. However, I hear that the TV dosent output Dolby Digital or DTS though the PS3 or whatever source outputs dolby or DTS.

Does anyone know about how this works? Do I have to keep my damn switchbox, or can I use the TV for digital sound through optical?

Thanks!

This probably doesn't help but I used my Digital Optical Audio out on my PS3 directly hooked into my Samsung 1000 watt 5.1 surround system and it sounds amazing.

I'd just made sure to configure the audio settings on my PS3 so it didn't continue to use the HDMI for sound.

Again.. that probably doesn't help

sry, it dosent- but thank you for trying.

I got all my optical devices conneted to an optical switch box which then is connected to the surround sound.

I had hoped the Samsung M8 would work as a switch.

So your wanting the HDMI from your PS3 ( and other devices) to go into your TV, and then grab the sound from your TV and output to your surround sound? Is that correct?

Correct!

Which would mean that I would only need to connect the tv to the surround set, and all my playing devices including PS3, XBOX and Apple TV via HDMI to the Samsung M8.

My Logitech Z5500 surround set does not support HDMI...

AFAIK atm, one will lose the digital sound choosing to use the tv ti output the digital signal from HDMI to Optical -AFAIK because the optical out was designed for the digital tuner.
