I just got a copy of MLB The Show 10 in the mail. It was a previously used one I got on Amazon and was fulfilled by Amazon.
I load it up in the PS3, and the disc icon does not show up on the XMB. Then after about 20-30 seconds, the PS3 makes a sound as if it is RE-taking the disc (the sound when you insert the disc and it loads it up), but still...no disc icon to click on in the XMB. No indication that there is even a disc in the system. I've never had this happen before. Any ideas what could be wrong? I just took out Little Big Planet 2, so I know that it accepts discs. |

First thing is to check to see if the disk is clean, second to see if it's scratched. If it looks fine, try cleaning it anyway. When I used to us Netflix mail service, I had movies fail to play frequently enough because of dirt. I got into the habit of cleaning all rented/used disks before using.
I actually had a brand new movie out of a sealed case with a fingerprint that prevented it from playing once, too. Also look for cracks originating from the inner edge. Last edited by jsteinhauer; 02-06-2012 at 07:08 PM. |

You can also check to verify the disc is flat, by laying the disc on a smooth, flat surface. If it's warped, you might be able to flex it in the opposite direction or stack some books on top to get it to play. Don't flex it too far though. BDs are even more susceptible to bending than dvds. |

I'm not saying it can't happen, but anybody handling these discs at the factory, should be wearing gloves. Scratches, on the other hand, occur quite often during replication. But, as for a fingerprint, especially one dense enough to cause a reading error, I'd be more apt to think that whoever you bought it from rewrapped a used item. Some of the bigger sellers on amazon and ebay, ones who do high volume sales especially, do this - some even have their own stores. You have to be doing high volume sales to be able to justify the stickerprice of a commercial machine plus wrapping. Even then, unless they bought it for something else they sell, it likely wouldn't pay for itself, just selling used movies.
