Over the past 20 years there have been a lot of good draft pickups by teams. With that being said, there have also been many huge mistakes at the draft. Post what you think is the worst one of all.
I'd have to go with Patrik Stefan. Let's face it, he didn;t meet the standards of a 1st overall draft pick. I don't know what the Thrashers were thinking but it's kind of sad to see who they potentially could have picked up. Just to name a few; Henrik & Daniel Sedin, Jordan Leopold, Henrik Zetterberg, Ryan Miller, Martin Erat, Ryan Malone, Barret Jackman, Steve McCarthy and Martin Havlat all could have been picked over Stefan. And who could forget this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uI0CFWPxdss |

Lindros drafted by Quebec and not wanting to play for the team.
Sub-Irony, after that season Quebec moved to Colorado and won the cup making Lindros look like a complete moron. Logan |

Alexandre Daigle. Remember the hype? Yes. Remember him? No? Exactly.
![]() I believe Lindros' career point totals end up averaging more than 1 point-per-game, so the guy was barely a bust. He just had a soft wittle head and wasn't healthy for most of his career. ![]() Other hyped-up guys who were initially disappointing were: Rick DiPietro, but being the Islanders goalie isn't exactly easy and Roman Hamirlik, although he's done decently on Montreal the past few years. Just by looking at the #1 Draft Picks over the past 26 years, they only seem to have a few random weak ones in the 1990's. Other than that, they've mostly been solid. 1984 Mario Lemieux 1985 Wendel Clark 1986 Joe Murphy 1987 Pierre Turgeon 1988 Mike Modano 1989 Mats Sundin 1990 Owen Nolan 1991 Eric Lindros 1992 Roman Hamrlik 1993 Alexandre Daigle 1994 Ed Jovanovski 1995 Bryan Berard 1996 Chris Phillips 1997 Joe Thornton 1998 Vincent Lecavalier 1999 Patrik Stefan 2000 Rick DiPietro 2001 Ilya Kovalchuk 2002 Rick Nash 2003 Marc-Andre Fleury 2004 Alexander Ovechkin 2005 Sidney Crosby 2006 Erik Johnson 2007 Patrick Kane 2008 Steven Stamkos 2009 John Tavares 2010 Edmonton Oilers - ? Regardless of who they pick, their team can't be any worse off than it is now. ![]() Last edited by Offender_Mullet; 05-30-2010 at 01:07 PM. |

![]() Lindros had a fairly productive career, even though he never lived up to the billing of 'The Next One'. His style of play was not conducive to a lengthy career, as evident by the number of concussions he incurred while in the league. I think I still have a hockey blade that he autographed (before he entered the draft) somewhere in my parents' basement. |
