Tried connecting new Blu-ray player (Insignia) to DVI input HD monitor. After receiving logo of player, then 'not supported' note on dark screen. What might be my case? Do all Blu-ray players require HDMI to HDMI connections? Are there players that work very well with DVI monitor HD?

Apparently, we decided to make you wait for a reply.
As far as the "not supported" message, there are 2 possible situations; 1) the player is outputting a resolution that the monitor cannot support. If possible, try connecting the player using a standard video cable (yellow rca-type) into a different display in order to change the resolution and see if that fixes it. 2) there is a breach of HDCP protocol somewhere. First, check if the monitor is HDCP certified. If not, it will not display an image from a blu-ray player over HDMI. If the monitor is, however, then check to make sure the cable is. But, it is usually a monitor issue, not a cable issue. Hope you get it somewhat figured out! |

DVI works.
My Panasonic BD-55 is connected to my 44” DLP LG RU 44SZ63D monitor’s DTV/DVI input giving me fine 720P video. The Panasonic’s audio goes out via its 5.1 analog audio outputs to the SACD audio inputs of my Rotel RSX–965 receiver giving me excellent up to date Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio reception. I think in this case it's most like the HDCP issue of the monitor. John |

Unsupported resolution is a possibility, but I wouldn't rule out HDCP. HDCP was created for HDTV's, so it was rare to find a TV with a DVI input that lacked HDCP. The computer industry invented DVI a number of years before HDTV makers borrowed it, and they had no need for copy protection. As an example, I've got a five-year-old Zenith with a DVI input, but it is a DVI-HDCP input and so it has worked fine with a number of HDMI sources (including 3 DVD players, an HD-DVD player, 2 Blu-ray players, and an HD cable box). In contrast, I have tried hooking an HDMI DVD player to the DVI input of a couple different LCD monitors and found them to lack HDCP. Granted, it's been a couple years since I tried that.
There are a couple things you could try. One would be to check your monitor's documentation to see if it lists supported resolutions or whether the DVI port offers HDCP. Another would be to try changing output resolution on the player to see if you can find a compatible resolution that way. If the player requires you to enter a setup menu to change resolution, you may need to connect a composite video cable to the monitor or some other display in order to do that. |

Tried connecting new Phillips UpConvert DVD player (HDMI out) to same DVI input HD monitor and it worked. The Blu-ray(Insignia) resolution was set and checked using analog connections. The monitor results were the same: nothing! The monitor claimed that it was DVI-HDCP. Also, I found the LG Blu-ray BD-370 was missing in action using the monitor. Maybe Panasonic -55 will work?
