Default Home Theatre Backlight

I have noticed on some of the home theatre pics, that some people have put a red, blue or green neon backlight behind the TV. It looks really cool in the picture, but I was wondering if it really enhances the viewing of the a show. Anyone care to give an opinion?

IMO, it hinders the accuracy of the picture. I feel it creates a hue to the picture that is not natural or accurate to the movie. For example, If you watch a movie, say Jet Li's Fearless, and have a green backlight, the picture will have a green hue and sort of look like CSI or The Matrix.

If a backlight is something you want, a 6500K (D65) light is the best to use. It will actually bring out color accuracy sine 6500K is the closest to natural light.

I don't have any links, but I'm sure a quick Google search will provide you options.

YMMV.

Cool

Cyron has a 6500K (D65) option -- not too cheep, but they rock!

I don't think the blue make 300 look any less sepia or red

I have my lights from a company called Cyron.

They are rather pricey, so keep that in mind. The lights do help with eye strain if you watch a lot of movies in the dark. I like the effect, as it adds a nice new dimension to my HT and viewing pleasure.

EDIT: Darkdune just beat me to it!

The cyron white lights do effectively reduce eye strain when viewing your TV for long periods of time. It's most effective when watching in a completely dark room. In my opinion the colored lights can actually make eye strain worse, but they do look really cool!
