Default Phase adjustment - 0°/180°

I never understood what the phase button does in the back of my sub. Should it be pressed in or not? Can someone please help.

Default Phase l 0 & 180

Hello

I am uncertain just how much assistance that I can offer here; but I will try.

While I am quite knowledgeable with regards to setting up subwoofers, and set phase regularly; to explain the proper setting, done by ear, would be problematic.

Phase is quite important; ideally, a variable phase setting is required.

Having said this; you would need to listen to some low frequency information, such as organ music, and judge the two settings by listening for the clearest and tightest bass, which should additionally sound the most natural. I realize this is simple minded, but typically, it would take many setups, with someone that already knows the proper settings, for you to properly learn how to recognize what is right. By yourself, you will simply have to hope that you recognize the proper of the two; which is far easier than to set it properly with a variable rate from 0 to 180.

To be clear; this is usually done by ear, with the technique passed on by someone learned in both the technique and having trained their ear for the proper sound. It is not really that difficult; only the learning process is problematic.

There is more to this, such as proper subwoofer location and proper level; hopefully, you already know this other issues.

Proper setup of subwoofers is both a science and skill; there are many interrelated factors that must be done together for proper results.

Thank You

99% of people leave it at 0. To be plan and simple phase adjust you're cone moving in and out at the same time you're main speaker cones move in and out. Adjusting it to 180 means when you're main speaker cones move forward you're subs cone moves inward. I think it comes more in play when you run dual subs.

try this for an explaination

If you give it a "+" signal
at 0 phase, the cone will move out
at 180 phase, the cone will move in

the phase needs to be set to push air in conjunction with your other speakers
not against them...

The phase is so your mains and sub are not out of phase and or the room settings can cause your sub to lack bass and the phase knob will correct this, the best way to set this is with 2 people, sit in your main position and get someone to turn the phase control slowly until you hear you bass come to life and leave it there. It's not a 0 or 180 setting it might be somewhere in the middle. You will hear the difference in your bass when you set the phase correctly.

That's a good explanation, but some subs only give you the option of 0 or 180, with nothing in-between. Others give you a knob where you have a greater level of control where you can set it anywhere between 0 and 180.
