Default x10 burnner

" If applied for optical discs including Blu-ray Disc (BD) and HD DVD, it allows 10X speed recording with a double-layer disc and 2X speed recording with a four-layer disc, for example."

" Nichia said it confirmed stable operation for 1,000 hours and estimated life of more than 10,000 hours under the same condition."

know is that 10x blu-ray or 10x hd dvd? thats getting close to the 12x breaking point dose any one know how to get 12x speed?

A coating of nano-tubes across the top and edge and, of course, more RPMs. That should do it.

I haven't heard of a 10x BD burner. I'm only aware of a diode that could possibly allow 10x burning for DL Blu-ray discs. But, with a coating of nano-tubes, I don't think they will have to worry about the disc breaking apart in the drive. That could help to increase read/write speeds by a huge factor. It's just nowhere near being cost effective at this point.

The article is about the pulse (R/RE) laser being created capable of 10x dual layer and 2x quad-layer BD, and having the lifetime characteristics required for commercialization.

Since it won't go into production until 1H 2008, there won't likely be any 10x burners until then. Unless Sony, or someone else is way ahead.

It seems that it's not the rotational speed of the drive that's not faster, it's the power for the laser. I am guesing that current lasers are not strong enough to burn high capacity Blu-ray at great speed.

the good thing from this, is that once 10x Blu-ray burners are availible, the 2x burners will drop in price drastically.
