Default 720p vs. 1080p

Hi, I currently own a 720p Samsung 32" LCD HDTV and am seraching the market to upgrade to a 1080p. Can someone tell me if there is a noticeable difference between 720p and 1080p and if it's worth paying the extra money for 1080p. Also, if I do get a 1080p TV then it'll be 40".

Only on 50"+ one can see the diffrence of 1080p vs 720p. But If your going to be sitting about 4-5 feet form the 40" tv then yes you can tell the diffence pf the two.

1080p is 2.25x the pixels of 720p so you can enlarge the diagonal of the screen 1.5x from the same seating distance and get the same quality.

I have Philips BDP9000 blu-ray player and a Mitsubishi HC3000 720P projector, projecting onto an OPTOMA 106" screen and all I can say is that all the movies in 1080i have been nothing short of breathtaking. I don't even think I miss 1080p at all. Imagine if bd's look this good on a 106" screen in 1080i how good they'll look on a much smaller screen?

I agree the 1080p resolution being the best is negligible. I've seen 50" plasma displays running side by side at 1080i/1080p and I couldn't see a difference. I run my pioneer 50" plasma at 720p and bluray movies look stellar.

So can you tell a difference between 720p and 1080p in a 40" HDTV?

depend on viewing distance.

Fill in the info & on the bottem will give you the MAX distance to fully resolve 1080i/1080p for x sized tv at x distance vs MAX distance to fully resolve 720p :
