Default Night of the Living Dead

I'd love to see both the original 1968 version as well as the 1990 remake get released on BD. The original in particular could be benefit greatly with a 1080p transfer (despite it being such a low budget film.) I know it's already been released in the UK but it's region locked and I heard the transfer isn't all that stellar. With Dawn of the Dead and Day of the Dead already on BD I think it'd be great if the first could show up. Here's hoping for a release in the near future.

Weinstein released the original on DVD over a year ago, but no Blu release.

Universal owns the rights to the remake. The original is a different story. I think the movie has become public domain, but that some companies has better prints than others. The THX certified DVD release seems to be the best. I have heard rumors of the original being released, I just can't quote any sources.

It was rumoured that Weinstein/Dimension was going to release a blu-ray along with the recent DVD re-release last year, but it didn't end up happening.

Weinstein seems to be pretty un-committed to blu-ray in general, so I'm not holding my breath.

That said, it's in the public domain, so theoretically anyone with a print of the film can release it if they wish.

Well the 1968 version is on bluray but only in the UK. I would love to see them both on bluray for our region as well.

It saddens me that the UK version isn't region free. This is such a great movie, on multiple levels. Hopefully we will get a U.S. version...someday.

Yeah the UK got a blu, & it comes with the 90-minute 'One for the Fire' documentary. I believe it is region B though, or maybe region free but the doc is in PAL.
