I honestly don't buy it though. We all know they are addictive.

So it's not a mental disorder, That's good to know.

I do understand why they were trying to do this. I knew someone you bought Everquest for the PS2, after about a week of playing it. He quite is job and did nothing but play the game. Sometimes he wouldn't shower for days.

I really don't understand how a game could be that addictive. I've played a game for about 8 hours straight, staying up until 5 am, but never to the extreme of not eating, showering, and quitting my job.

hmm, we need an alcoholic or drug addict who is also addicted to video games to give us their input. Is video game addiction on the same level as drugs/alcohol?

I've never taken it too far myself, but even I have those times where I just can't wait to get home to play a certain game. Then wehn I play I'm always surprised that 3-4 hours have passed.

I'm not saying it has the chemical addiction power of a drug, which is more how a doctor would approach it, but it certainly has the addictive power of surfing the net, watching TV or over-eating.

Uhhh... it isn't the same as having the measles. There is no objective criteria, try as some might to make up such things, to determine if some activity is messing up your life. It is a subjective phenomenon unique to each individual and what he/she wants out of life.

I don't think my future wife or my cousin's child's mother will buy the good doctor's explanation when we're off playing Madden or NBA 2K7.

Well at that time he was 23, it was back a few years ago when Everquest first came out on the PS2, he was staying at one of my friend’s house. Last I heard he was living at his bother house and was working again, this was about 1 1/2 years ago.

Parents’ Basement, lol, just a little FYI. I live in South Florida, I don't know anyone who has a basement around here. I'm sure there might be a few, but I don't know any.

Not addictive, Ha, then why do I play MotorStorm and MLB 07 for hours once I start? I hope my wife believes this when I show it to her.

Not addictive?!?! Tell that to the 75 or so gamers in S. Korea who've died from dehydration,
starvation & heart failure playing MMORPG's for days at a time (source: Discovery HD - Gamer Generation).

I read about that article mentioned and I will tell everyone on here that some people do not understand why we all play video games in our spare time. The reason that I play is to unwind and to figure something out. No joke. I was playing zelda on wii and I had to solve three puzzles to get a heart piece. The puzzles involved moving blocks around a square piece of ice to hold down two or three switches. The puzzles were not hard to solve, but I had to think for a minute on how I was going to solve the puzzle. Another example is that when I had nintendo gamecube, I played the prince of persia sands of time and there was a level where I had to move a statue of one end of the room to the other end. I could move the statue forwards and backwards and turn it around 360 degrees. Very challenging puzzle. My next door neighbor thinks that video games make you stupid and he doesn't allow his three kids to play video games at all because he doesn't consider playing video games or even watching TV something to do. He wants them outside 24/7 and his wife doesn't care if the kids are indoors or not. Let ask everyone here a question, if video games are considered an addiction, then what do you call being online, selling on ebay, watching TV or being on this website? Addiction? or something else?
