Saw this posted on Google News today. It's titled Five Reasons Blu-ray Is Hurting.

Point number 1 starts off like this

Quote:
Blu-ray faces stiff competition, not just from its HD DVD foe, but from a host of other video formats
Wow - where has this writer been? Couldn't help but laugh when I read this today.

This guy must be retarded or something lol. Like how in the hell do they come up with this nonsense? Does he even have one bit of reference to back up any of his statements?

Hehe.

This dude just used that poll recently that said 11% own HD-DVD players while only 7% own BD players. It's nothing new, he just wasn't paying attention and only used a single (and terrible) source to justify a bad article.

There are only two possiblities here:

1) This was written by an intern who had no interest in the subject matter and no research skills.

2) This was written a couple of years ago and used to fill space for a deadline.

I would urge you...my Brothers of the BluWorldOrder to e-mail these cretonous wretches and inform them of their ignorance.

Anyone noticed that the first comment was someone promoting the superiority of digital downloads by linking their blog on Seagate.com

Probably the writer is some tech junkie who wants to one day be able to look back, point to his article, and proclaim that he foretold the demise of Blu-ray.

Brilliant.

There are still bitter HD DVD supporters who will never want Blu-ray to succeed. Among those people a strain of hostility exists against Blu-ray for killing off their beloved format. It now manifests as underhanded attacks against Blu-ray with biased information.

Amazing at the people still grasping straws. The bad thing, is so many are misinformed and think Sony has proprietary ownership over the format. They are attacking the wrong thing just to be anti-Sony. When do these people ever attack Panasonic and Phillips?

"One significant thing that the writer failed to mention is that upscaling DVD players such as an OPPO take standard DVD's and produce quality 1080i pictures to the point where the difference between a an upscaled standard DVD and a Blu-Ray DVD is negligible at best. The only difference is the Blu-Ray sound is better quality...."

I enjoyed this comment. Why do I have a feeling that this person doesn't own a blu-ray player and is just chiming in with the same canned answer. Or it might have been one of the blogger's friends who wrote in.

A comment is just as funny:

Quote:
Reasons 1 and 5 above are the same: BluRay won the battle for DVD disc standard but lost the war to electronic distribution. My post on this:

BluRay’s new nemesis (http://storageeffect.media.seagate.com)
Gee, I wonder why someone at Seagate wants downloads instead of Blu-ray?
