France Paris, Texas - french BD release

Does anyone here have the french release? Does it have forced subtitles or can you turn them off? Any technical info would be appreciated - thanks

Ok just watched a few scenes, this is probably not the right kind of movie for a Hd Demo, but i found the result was still pretty good. (it has been supervised by wim wenders so one can guess this is how Wim wanted the movie to look)

1080P transfer with DTS -HD MA 5.1 english soundtrack (Ry Cooder music is quite enjoyable)

french subtitles are removeable.

only zone B is mentioned on the back cover so it is probably region restricted.

Thanks for the info Zardoz! The Criterion version isn't an option for me (region locked) so this region B version is my best bet at the moment. Also I love that cover!

UPDATE: Just to let you guys know I ordered this tonight (Amazon france) and it should be here within 2-3 days (after dispatch). Will let you know what it's like when I get it.

I cannot confirm that. I only could select three audio tracks one being the English track with forced French subs.
The pq is quite good though imo although I think the Criterion BR looks better.

turn the subtitles off with your remote control : i doubt Arte has edited several versions of this blu-ray

what you can select in the menus is one thing, what you can actually do is something else

Unfortunately my remote (Panasonic BD65) does not offer that option. Good to know that it's possible though...

I received two requests for review of this release. Is there any more interest?

Definitely interested.
It caused quite a stir back in the days, but today it wouldn't have been such a big deal right?

OK, Q. I wanted to make sure because Criterion's release is Region-A "locked" so it is obviously not an option for many aficionados residing in Region-B countries.

I will make sure to post a review in a couple of weeks.

Any film aficionado -literally- should be multi-region.

Criterion have done a wonderful job and there's no need to try and 2nd guess European distributors' subtitle options.

A Region A locked player can be imported cheap enough from the likes of http://www.movietyme.comcatalog/ or http://www.dvdworldusa.com or eBay.com.

It'll pay for itself in a few months if you are indeed an aficionado.

hmm my mother has a Panasonic, i will check the disc on it,

would be strange if there was no way to change audio/subtitles during reading (when it is allowed)

Awesome pro-b, just awesome, will keep a lookout.

The Driver, I wouldn't call myself an aficionado, but it is definitely what I will become sometime in the future (hopefully). If I could afford a region free player, I'd do it in a heart beat of course, just not in the nearest future.

The Driver,

No offense, but these are difficult times for a lot of people, and not everyone can afford to spend $100+ on a Region-Free player. This is why we have a community here - to help each other. Additionally, while I have a great deal of respect for Criterion and their work, I am not convinced that they are immune to various problems, so if it makes sense, financially and quality-wise, I certainly don't have a problem sneaking in a review or two for releases that our members are interested in. Occasionally, it takes me a bit of time because I have to also cover my regular load on time, but I will find the time to get a review up for a title people are interested in

ok just tested it on a Panasonic BD player.

there is probably a way to program the subtitles option switching on one of the remote button, but anyway you can do the following :

- select french track in the menu.
- launch the movie
- use your audio key to switch to the english multi channel track (without subtitles)
