Bringing the prices down would be the only good thing this could do as every format of media I have purchased from this company has failed, and failed consistently...

If you ever backed up a movie on their DVDs you would be lucky if you could get through watching it once....The second or third time...Forget it...

Data DVDs...Same issues and I found this out the hard way...

I buy Sony disks, or HP. I spend more on DVDs because it saves money to do so. I tell all of my friends this.

Batches of other brands are hit-and-miss. Sony disks are consistent, and not much more these days. They also last a heck of a lot longer, too.

When it comes to dvd's, RITEK is producing decent quality blank discs. If you do a little research on the web though, you'll quickly find that on any list of disc manufacturers, RITEK is usually and middle tier or below type of company. But as someone has already mentioned it before, competition can only help in driving down prices. In essence, this is good news.

That used to be true, but not so much anymore. Ritek's quality slipped big-time in 2003/2004 when they went from RG03 to RG04 DVD-R media id, and has yet to recover. The same applies for Ridata, Ritek's budget brand.

Rule of thumb -
Taiwan media = Iffy
Japan media = Good

Blu-ray is too new, and it does use different manufacturing techniques, so I have no idea if Ritek will make a good media or not. Time will tell. But the corners they cut with their DVD-R media makes me leery of buying their Blu-ray media. Especially when the price is so high, a coaster could cause me to fall into Tourette's-like outbursts for hours
