I am curious to know did any of you buy the extended warranty and if you think it is worth it? Also how many of you actually use your warranty if you have it? Please list your LCD/Plasma and also if you have any stories please tell.

they had the warranty and it was fixed for free. one of my component jacks isn't working in color so i'll be calling best buy and get it fixed for $0. |

i bought one for my Sony, for about $400.00 and about 2 years into the life of the tv I had the Optical block replaced (the engine as it were), that would have cost $1200 out of warrenty (not really, sony had an inherent problem with the optical blocks and due to a class action suit, would have paid for it's replacement, assuming you knew about the class action suit!) then about 1 year later my lamp blew and under my warrenty, included was one lamp change and they did that Friday last week. so as of Friday last week, it's like I got a brand new TV! I think, for me, once I spend more than a $1k for electonics especially HDTV, if offered, I think it's worth the cost of an extended, in home warrenty. If i had to pay for both of those things it would have cost me $1600 bucks of course I could have bought a new tv for that money, but as it turns out, this tv still has lots of life in it. the more the money, the newer the tech (if you got it as soon as it was released) then yes, I recommend the extended warrenty because you never know!

Most of the time the extended warranty is just extra profit for the company that sells it to you.
Consumer Reports product surveys show that LCD and Plasma sets are very reliable. I personally don't buy the warranty. I've had very few products break within the warranty period and if they do eventually break, it's years later when I want something new and better anyway. I know some folks who make their own extended warranty by putting aside says $20 per week in a savings fund and if they need the money it's there....if not, they have money for something else. This takes discipine. All that being said, it's really up to each individual's comfort zone and finances when it comes to extended warranties. |

We got the 4 year Best-Buy warranty with our 37" Aquos.... because it was a gift, and the person paid for it....
The T.V. itself is junk.... but we haven't used the warranty yet because Best Buy has been pretty unreasonable about fixing our problems with it. (turns itself on during the night..... hasn't done it in awhile, but it's done it quite a few times..... all remotes etc. removed from the area, and that didn't fix the problem) |

Even if you never use your warranty, it's a good idea to have one just in case.
I got one when I bought my samsung LNT4061F a year and a half ago. Well, it appears as though I'm going to have to use it. My set is starting to act up. I'm glad I got it. |

my current HDTV is C27604HD it's a Citizen brand HDTV I payed for 2 years extended warranty and 1 month after the warranty expired it died (I suspect power supply as it now just blinks the on/off light. I'm now in the process of getting a new HDTV, this time with a focus on getting the best one I can (within reason) right now I'm thinking about KDL40Z5100.

I have a Sony KDL 40V300 and I bought the warranty.
I don't worry about Sony products in any way, but the price for a 5 year extended warranty from Frys was very good, less than 1/3 of similar warranties from BB and Circuit City (R.I.P) and since this was the first time I have ever paid more than $500 for a TV (my first HD after a generation of much less costly SDs), I felt comfortable knowing that if anything happened to it in 5 years that I did not self inflict, it would be repaired / replaced. |

I,d did not because after the manufactures warrenty expires ( Sony),
I can buy it then from the Sony rewards site, or a third-party site. And because I am an adult with no one else around to touch my stuff, I,m very careful and clean with things I had to sweat for. Last edited by bongzilla; 06-02-2009 at 05:05 PM. Reason: x |

LG Scarlett 42". Extended warranty is how most shops make a nice profit. With today's TV's, they should not go wrong within a few years, that is not saying that a percentage do. I said no to my extended warranty, but the wife insisted on it as I was going to mount it on the wall (We have a mud brick house). She also insisted on buying 8 10 inch bolts. A little overboard but it is nice to know that if the big one drops then my TV will be the only thing left of the house standing.
