Default Optimizing Network Connection

Hi,

My 60GB PS3 is wired to an Apple Airport Express and the connection seems slow. I don't think it's a PS3 problem but rather just the router needs some settings adjusted or maybe I could use a newer router.

Anyone know where I should start to try to improve ethernet performance? ..?

you should try and open up the DMZ port on your router. It is a fairly simple process. I noticed a pretty big difference in speed on my ps3 when i opened it up on my linksys.

Is there any risk when doing that? Opening up a port kind of goes against what I've normally done to keep my wireless secure.

basically what opening the DMZ port will do is take your chosen device out from behind the firewall. Not recommended for say your every day use pc or mac but i have chosen to open the dmz port for the PS3 and is generally considered okay for gaming.

I know it will not be to everyone's taste, because of security issues, however i think the chance that my PS3 will be attacked is very small.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to look into the DMZ thing and also try to read up on port forwarding in case that's something that would help.

www.portforward.com

find your touter then find PLAYSTATION NETWORK

also set up a static IP for your ps3 then put that static IP into the DMZ in your router settings

How is the speed when your Mac is connected to it? If the internet is slow all around it might just be your ISP.
