Default Brendanb21's home Theatre

Hi All,

Thanks for all the kind messages on my pics, and for all who have not seen them yet, please check them out.

OK, when it comes to home theatre I am a child. I have hardly any knowledge on how to setup my space to maximise sound efficiency, but im a big DIY guy so any suggestions that you may have would be greatly appreciated.

This is the gear, TV 5years old now and was a cheapie at the time Brand - SONIQ who knows whats in it, and unfortunately is only 1080i.
The surround sound in the lounge room is also a cheapie called PAVO lol, i think its a sony ripoff. anyway sounds ok for now. The plan is to replace the plasma after xmas with maybe the new samsung 55" smart TV UA55D7000, if anyone has a better suggestion than this tv please let me know, i looked at it in the store and seems quite nice $3100 AUD.
Then the surround sound is getting replaced with something around the $500-$800 range. JBHIFI has a samsung bluray all in one 5.1 SS system for $647 (Samsung HTC5550W/XSA 5.1).

The only thing plugged into this plasma is the PS3.

The PS3 has the HDMI running into a 4 x splitter, 1st HDMI cable runs to the plasma, 2nd HDMI runs under the house and into the projector, 3rd runs under the house and into a 24" LEDTV that is hung on the back of the house in my entertaining area, and 4th cable rund under the house to the master bedroom and into a wall mounted 32" tv, so bluray can play anywhere in the house on all tvs at once if i want, that is how Avatar is in both the pictures and allows me to play the playstation wherever i go. lol

Now to power the cinema speakers there is a stereo and a sony 5.1 amp hidden behind the cinema lounge, it is only there until i pull my finger out and move all the wiring to the centre of the room and setup a little unit to hold the amp etc.
The reason for the stereo, is the sub is split into the active sub next to the fireplace, and the sub out into the stereo powers aura bass shakers which have been installed under the lounge (If anyone has not looked into this, do so, It is frikken awesome)

The screen is a motorised job from ebay 120" was about $400 i think.
Projector is a 4yr old Hitachi PJ-TX100, i have added a ccr30 filter which helped a lot with black levels and red tone.

The light box is made from an IKEA frame, screwed the timber to the back and sprayed it all black.
I chiseled a slot in the bottom which houses the AA battery pack and it stays there by 2 little tabs that can be turned outward, which drops the battery pack down to easily replace and recharge the batteries.and a smaller hole which i plaed a switch to turn the lights on. i have show in the photo the lights, which were $5 delivered each off ebay, i have wired 2 sets together to run of 4AA batteries and stapled them in a snake pattern around the board, I just didnt like the idea of having a cable run down the wall to plug into power. (most people use LED rope lights)

After reading several posts, many claimed the subwoofer performs better when raised off the floor, so off to the local hardware store again for another diy. Constructed from 90x45 timber, a sqaure piece of carpet a staple gun, and some sound obsorbtion foam underneath and the subwoofer riser was born. I could not tell you as a percentage how much better it made the bass, but it was completely noticeable more louder, deeper.

I think thats it. Thank you all for your posts I have spent many hours reading and looking at other members HT pics for inspiration.

I am concidering building some 2 sound obsorbtion panels on the wall oppisote the curtain ( oh i forgot curtain again off ebay lol yes i am adicted with ebay... $200 black velvet, the ceiling mount track was from some chinese online store cost me abou $15 delivered).
Would this be worth doing? or due to my room setup e.g timber floors and space.

Look forward to speaking with you all, please let me know if you would like some more photos or description of anything specific.

Apologies for my bad english, i never proof read anything i type.

Cheers from Australia.
