Ok guys here's the deal. My living room viewing area is 12 feet from the tv. The room is never brightly lit. I play ps3 games and blurays 10 hours or more a week and the rest of my viewing is hd content on directv. I currently own a 56" samsung dlp that is 3 years old. I just replaced the bulb and have no issues with the tv but am ready to step up to newer technology. I have $3k available on my bb account and could pony up more if necessary. I want at least a 55" tv. I have a two year old samsung plasma 50" a450 I believe, up in the bedroom. I hate the image retention! Are the higher end/newer plasmas better with this issue than they were? I am scared to drop that kind of cash on a plasma and be in the same boat. What would you buy and why?

Do you have an audio setup? If not, I would spend 2k on a nice panny plasma or sammsung LCD (depending on preference) and put the rest into audio. 50% of the magic of blu is the audio!

You really can not go wrong with any of the TV's above. It is going to come down to what looks good to you! Demo time!

You can find descent prices on most the hight end LCD's right now. I bought a Samsung 950 55" last fall on sale for 4200.00 at BB. I think they recently had it on sale for around 3800.00 and this by far is the best LCD or plasma I've ever seen. Most of the time they will price match sometimes even online pricing but that seems to be rare. The new Samsung 6000, 7000 and 8000 LED series are very close but don't use the same technology as the 950 however the picture is still quite amazing on these sets.

Best value right now on a top-notch set would be the Pany 58" 800U. You can get one for <$1900 these days. Since you already have a set and can wait, I'd wait for the 58" Pany V10's to hit the street in August. IMO, it would be well worth the wait and for the $$, no other set will be able to touch it.

I really have not heard, but based on the $1800 price tag on the 50" model, my GUESS would be ~$2400-$2700. I've got a 58" 720p Pany that I intend to sell to help pay for the upgrade to the 58" V10 this fall.
