Exclamation HD DVD sticking around despite disadvantages?

This is what i found on www.HDDVD.com this moring.

Quote: A lot about how things play out in the HD DVD and Blu-ray format war are just plain common sense. One need only refer to other competitions in the consumer electronics marketplace to see how history is repeating itself with the next-gen DVD formats. This week’s edition of Business Week has a great analysis that echoes themes and ideas presented here in past articles:

Sales figures are too inconclusive to say that one side is doing better than the other, and retailers will need to keep supporting both formats for quite a while.
Not counting PS3 sales, Blu-ray player sales are behind those of HD DVD players, and sales of HD DVD players have dramatically increased in the last couple of months. An interesting tid-bit in that article is about Toshiba’s efforts to invite Chinese manufacturers to the HD DVD party. In recent months, there had been news about WalMart possibly bringing out a $199 or $299 HD DVD player later in the year from one of these manufacturers. That deal was since denied, but I’m predicting that we’re likely to see a bunch of inexpensive HD DVD players as 2008 starts in another five or six months. That’s the kind of pricing strategy that will ensure HD DVD a solid footing on retail shelves for quite a long time. And it’s another good reason for you to get off that fence and get in on the HD DVD action now.

By the way, you don’t have to wait until 2008 for a $199-$299 HD DVD player, because players are already selling in that price neighborhood right now at retailers like Amazon.

Why wouldn't you count PS3 sales? they probably count MS add-on sales? Are they getting really desperate now or what? If all this is true where is all the HD-DVD promos on TV and stores? or moreaccurately where are the movies?

If they don't count PS3 sales, they DON"T count Add on sales. This has always been the case.

A thread was started last week that had some numbers:
https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...ight=150%2C000
100,000 Blu-ray standalones vs. 150,000 HDDVD standalones
1,400,000 PS3s vs. 150,000 HD DVD XBox 360 attachment drives.

So they would need to amend the following sentence:

Original:
Quote:
Not counting PS3 sales, Blu-ray player sales are behind those of HD DVD players
Fixed:
Quote:
If you subrtact 1.4 million from the BR side, Blu-ray player sales are behind those of HD DVD players

They don't include PS3's in players sold but do include PS3 when calculating sales ratio so why should we believe this?

Who gives a shit.

I keep hearing this crap. Ok, so what. They DONT include the PS3 in sales. Um ok. So Blu-Ray is STILL OUTSELLING HD-DVD when I look at the amount of discs sold.

All HD-DVD wants is to say they are outselling Blu-Ray. Who cares - let them think that. So what if their shitty players are outselling BD players. Too bad NOBODY is buying the movies to watch them on it. DERRRRRR. Without movies, the player is useless you freaking idiots!!!

HD-DVD group is stupid as all hell. Glad I went with Blu.

It doesn't matter what filter you use on the players sold, the media sales are clearly behind for HD DVD.

Spin doesn't change this - a change in sales is the only way to change this.

After all, if you only count the Univerval Pictures disc sales, HD DVD is way ahead!

lol - don't give them any ideas!

Seriously though, if only 4% (56,000) of PS3s were sold to consumers with the sole intention of using it as a Blu-Ray player (not too unbelievable given that they were the cheapest player until very recently), then BR player sales are better.

Ah, the question I've been asking for months. They are gaming it and they know it. Lies are the last refuge for the lost.

Don't they have to counth the 360 add on? It is only an HD DVD player and is not required, which means if someone wants to buy an HD DVD player they have 2 options. Add on or Toshiba. So the add on has to be counted. The ps3 won't count because if someone just wants a gaming system and wants a ps3 they have to get the BD player with it. i know people buy it for BD player, but its impossible to figure out how many people bought the ps3 for what. Where as the HD DVD add on has only one obvious answer. Unless it states that they didn't count it then ignore this.

All these numbers are just marketing. The bottom line is that you can spin them any way you want. First of all, I'm not sure of the source of the 1.4 million PS3s. NextGen Wars is citing 3.4 million. The way I look at it is ultimately how many people can buy your product. HD-DVD = MAYBE 400,000 MAX. Blu-Ray = 3.5 million or more. And again, even if only a small percentage of PS3 owners buy Blu-Ray movies that's still a much bigger market.
