HD-DVD and BluRay??????

I have a question....Is there a difference in picture quality between HD-DVD & Bluray?? My friend said no!! he said they are both HD quality just 2 diff companies and programs but same result!! The reason i am asking is because i go to places like Fry's and see hella HD-DVD's for hella cheap and there are some titles i dont have that I put on my bluray list and then I see at frys they have some of the same titles in HD format for hella cheap!! So i was thinkin of the titles i want that are in HD-Dvd I should just purchase in that format and save alot more money but I wanted to make sure its the same quality especially picture quality!! Help please?? Got Em!!

Your friend is a MORON and I wouldn't listen to him anymore where HD movies are concerned. There is a reason blu-ray won and that reason is capacity. HD DVDs can't go past 30 GB, someday blu-rays will be 250 GB and maybe more.

They're cheap because they're not making them anymore. And HD-DVDs won't play on a Blu-ray player, so unless you have an HD-DVD player there's no point.

And as for the PQ being the same, yes, a lot of movies that were released on both formats have the same PQ because the studios used the same encode.

Since they closed it I wasnt able to respond. anyway bottomline do the same movies that are on both hd-dvd & Bluray have the same PQ?? For example:

King Kong
Miami Vice
Transformers
Batman Begins
etc......

yeah, same pq, audio may not be lossless tho, they seemed to leave that out of a lot of HD DVD's, prob cuz of space. But you HAVE to have an HD DVD player. They will not play on a BD player...
