Default Toshiba Blu-ray player on its way...

http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/18/t...-by-years-end/

Quote:
Need a little something to get you over the Saturday lull? Gnaw on this. Japan's own Yomiuri is reporting today that Toshiba is expected to finally admit defeat and enter the dark, devious world of Blu-ray later this year. For those keeping tabs, we've heard both confirmations and denials about the outfit finally caving and supporting the format it once battled so valiantly, but this seems to solidify it. If machine translation is to be believed, the company's first DVD / Blu-ray deck will boast a BD 18 label, and it's slated for release somewhere in the world by the year's end. The article also mentions that Tosh is strongly considering a Blu-ray recorder for the Japanese market, though no further details on that are available. C'mon Toshiba -- get this bad boy to the States before Christmas. We're anxious for a BD price war.

http://www.pcworld.com/article/16867...this_year.html

Quote:
Exactly a year and five months after Toshiba brought an end to the high-definition disc format war, the Japanese consumer electronics company confirmed its plans to produce its own Blu-ray Disc player. Previously, rumors trickled in about Toshiba considering such a move; Japanese newspaper Yomiuri Shimbun this weekend reported that Toshiba will adopt the format it once battled against.

So those snaught noses decided to jump on the bandwagon, huh?

Blu-ray: I told you I was gonna win.

Toshiba: Yeah you were right.

Blu-ray: Did you say something? Say that again?

Toshiba: Yes, you were right and always will be right.

Their player will probably be excellent.
Toshiba, the door is wide open; just come home. You were lost but now you are found.

The picture is definitely PhotoShop'ed, but the rumor is probably right on the money. I, too, think their player will be awesome.

Welcome back, Toshiba.

Default What they should do!!!!

They should offer a discount on this unit to any idiot (like myself) that purchased and HD-DVD player, or they should have made this a combo unit.

it will be good to have another manufacturer in the market as it will only increase pricing wars...end of the day this is a win win for the consumer. Toshiba does make excellent products. HDDVD may have failed but their players were solid! A well built, solid Blu player from Toshiba would be really welcomed

They should give some kind of discount to all of us that bought their hd players for getting one new bluray player from them.

I don't think Toshiba could if they wanted to. IIRC, the facilities that produced the HD-DVD lasers were either closed or re-fabbed to make different technologies.

Well it's about time. They did make a quality HD-DVD player, so their Blu player should be fantastic.

Yep,... mine said HD DVD on it,... and was a great player. In all the time I owned it,.... 3 years,... it only had 2 updates,.... and never failed to play a movie.

I hope they get into Blu-Ray,... they'll out shine many of the players here with their QUALITY .
