Default My tv just freaked me out

I was just getting ready to head up to bed, so I started the break-in images to loop overnight. When the white one popped up, it kept changing brightness. I thought my new tv was busted. Then I figured out it was adjusting the brightness (actually, the contrast) relative to me walking between it and a lamp that was still on.

Turns out, it's the CATS - Contrast Auto Tracking System - that I apparently have turned on. I honestly didn't know the tv did this, but apparently it senses ambient lighting and automatically adjusts contrast. Pretty cool.

you'll probably want to turn the CATS off, it doesnt make for the most accurate picture

Got the same feature on my LG. Pretty fun to play with but does get annoying after a while. Turn it of, I did.

Close one! I thought for a second there that you were going to have to call a very old priest and a young priest.

It's off on the Blu-Ray input...I may leave it on until it annoys me on the Satellite input.

Not really concerned about 'accurate' from Dish Network, as I'm sure their broadcasting, especially from one channel to the next, isn't what anyone would consider 'accurate'.

Satellite programming is watched at any time of day, with any number of light sources on at one time in my house. I like the idea of the CATS feature for this...based on what I've read, it's exactly why Panasonic engineers came up with it.

Blu-ray, however, is most often watched at night, with all lights off. Given that, and the fact that I (through my equipment) have full control over how 'accurate' the picture is, most display processing features are turned off. This includes CATS.
