Default Satisfaction a function of purchase price?

I've been discussing with the wife (again) about the absurdity of Blu-ray movie pricing. The situation seems like studios do not truly believe in their business hearts that a title cannot be successfully sold for $20 at the shelves with just a BD disk.

As a result, the fluff of the package by forcibly adding to the potential purchase a Digital Copy or DVD, or both, and then bounce the price to $30. To me, I buy Blu-ray because I want Blu-ray and not because I want a DC or DVD. And I certainly am feeling more and more stubborn about this stance--I am actually NOT buying titles on BD. Example: The Incredibles.

Additionally, I am seeing more and more the practice in which titles hit the public theaters, bomb bigger than Fat Man and Little Joe on their opening day, and then the get released at an even absurd pricing point to insure that bombing goes like the Bikini Atoll tests. Example: Skyline ($27 for either the BD or DVD).

For a lot of the theatrical bombs, this means anyone considering purchase would be blind-buying, no? And how many are willing to buy an expensive title that few, if any, went to see the the theaters? Chances are if it bombed in the theaters it got bad word of mouth reviews, and hence making an expensive blind-buy highly unlikely.

I have to wonder about some of the folks being employed in the industry that set (soft or hard) pricing. If the title wasn't worth seeing in the theaters why would it be worth more at home?

And the overall effect has to be an ever increasing self-learning population of folks willing to 'borrow' the title for a day, and thereby skirting the whole bend over the sofa, please experience.

For the record, I'm not poor nor am I cheap. I do refuse to pay more than I think it is worth, and perfectly willing to do without. This should help the studios in they can press ever fewer copies of their expensive titles. Like those damn AOL CDs filling the landfills, so too will the DVD/DC and unsold bombs getting pressed by the millions.
