Default PS3 can render 4-D

http://gamers-creed.com/?p=99

So when you guys think we will actually see 4-D games on PS3?
I hope they will anounce at least one on E3 this year.

It's kind of cool, but it's basically a temporary band-aid. I would much rather a floor get dirty for a reason, rather than get dirty because it's been a week since it was cleaned. Now don't get me wrong this looks pretty cool and true environmental effects are probably decades away, but it's also not a new concept, it just leverages the power of the PS3. If you play a hockey game on any system, the ice surface will become gradually more marked up, for no other reason than the clock is ticking.

This reminds of the Denzel Washington Movie...Deja Vu

Those who have seen it will know what I mean.

I wonder how much more difficult and time consuming it is to write an algorithm to procedurally generate a texture.

If Cell can generate multiple textures quicker than prerendered textures can be streamed in without impacting the rendering of everything else, higher quality, even animated and morphing textures could be used as less needs to be loaded in at once, more can be quickly loaded at will as you move around.

don't look terribly interesting.
but you have to remember when they claimed the PS1 could render polygons in a 3D space not many people were impressed until a couple years later when it was put to use and the capability of the PS1 was finally realized (ie. FF7). same thing here, may not look like much now, but just wait until games start appearing that utilize this capability...

It seems that MGS4 will use 4D. Snake's octocam suit, and him aging in the game.

And also, the PS3 game 'Afrika' is supposed to be 4D.

Why would any want to be reminded that the game they just bough is becoming old and outdated?

I can just imagine Snake with a long beard and a cane after a couple of years.

This could be a great feature! No more static "4-D"
Can't wait to see when we can take advantage of it's full capabilities!
This could mean if you get your gun or knife wet in a game, if you didn't oil it, overtime it could become rusty and no good.
Or if you are holding a cardboard box and walk out into the rain, it would become wet and rip and everything inside would fall out. I think these examples would be shared between physix and 4-D...but the possibilities would be really awesome for certain situations!

why not? i think if they are able to make this feature possible, it will be jus the beginning! it will come sooner or later why not now and i dont think it would remind you that the game is gettin "outdated" or older.. it would remind me of how much these game creators can really do. jus think of the possiblities

Now that is cool. A game that ages inside lol. That really is cool man. I would love to see that in future games. I don't think I can play a game in 3d anymore lol.

There is no such thing as 4-D. That article is just hype.

It maybe 3-D with super-enhanced graphics and physics....but this is far from 4-D. Actually, there is no 4-D prototype for computer graphics and game development.

It's only a small addition of vectors added (if you know about basic physics & mathematics)....nothing plainly new.

Ultra high-quality 3D, more likely but 4D, hell no.

This is more like hype as far as I see it.

Actually they are 4D. If you watch the video of the bathroom and the texture of the floor changes over time. Which means the floor (if actually generated using procedural textures) is generated as a function of it's location in space (x, y, z) and the moment in time (t). Which makes it 4D.
